John David "J. D." Young
July 2, 1947 - April 2, 2025
John David Young, 77, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025 surrounded by his family in Stephenville, TX. John was born in Hamilton, TX on July 2, 1947 and was baptized in the St. John Lutheran Church. He was very actively involved in all aspects of the church there until he and his wife, Glennetta, relocated to College Station and then to the Stephenville area for the later part of his life. His service at St. John’s included the elder board, Sunday school teacher, being instrumental in St. John’s youth group and leading the campaign to build its Family Life Center.
John was also active around Hamilton in the community with service on the School Board, Volunteer Fire Department, Booster Club for sports and was instrumental along with others in getting Hamilton a high school baseball program in the 80’s with the baseball team making it to the state playoffs in 1989. He was active in coaching his kids’ sporting teams throughout their childhood and never missed any of their games.
He was a beloved Texas Aggie (class of 1969) and was never seen without his Aggie ring. While living in College Station, he would go to most home games by just showing up without a ticket only to buy and sell and trade until he got himself near the 50 yard line.
In early 2000’s, he and his wife built a family cabin north of Stephenville with their dream of having a place that would draw family together. It was at the family cabin where untold memories were made and where their vision for family to gather was more than exceeded. His kids and their grandkids, along with friends and extended family count this place as one of their favorites places to be.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Woody and Ruth Young, and by Steve Young, his younger brother who John loved so dearly. John is survived by his wife, Glennetta, of 55 years who was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 wife of noble character. She was with him in sickness and in health and loved John so very well and was an incredible example to all those who watched her love and serve John. John is also survived by his sons, Jason Young and grandkids, Derek and his wife Kristy, Dakota, Taylor and husband Colby; great grandkids Oakleigh, Skylar, Grant, Lucas and Annie, and Alexis and Dakota Johnston; his son JD (Bubba) Young and wife Stacey and his grandkids, Clay, Madison and her husband Cole, Logan and his wife Melynda, and MaKenna. John is also survived by the Fonsa family, Betrand, Mirielle, Paris, Starr and Neil Jayden (NJ) who he considered part of the family.
