Dwight Lewis Gailey, DVM
January 2, 1945 - January 23, 2023
Dr. Dwight L. Gailey passed away January 23, 2023. He was born January 2, 1945 in Abilene, Texas to a military family. They settled and he was raised in Memphis, Texas with a brother and a sister.
As an undergraduate at Texas A&M University, he was in the Corps of Cadets. After he started veterinary school, also at Texas A&M, he made extra money for his family as a farrier. After graduation, he pursued his love of horses by becoming a mobile equine veterinarian, working in the Denton/Dallas area and in South Louisiana. As his career was coming to an end, he converted an RV into a mobile clinic for small animals in Lubbock and did volunteer work for a low-cost spay/neuter clinic there.
He loved traveling to Colorado (Gunnison) in the summers. One of his passions was fly-fishing. He was a very gregarious, people-oriented person with many friends. He died at home in Lubbock of heart complications. He is survived by his daughter, Terri '89, and his son, Thad. He will be missed always.
