William Houston "Bill" Vaughan, Sr. 

September 18, 1930 - February 12, 2024 

William ''Bill'' Houston Vaughan, Sr., 93, passed away on February 12, 2024, in Ingram, Texas.

Bill was born on September 18, 1930, in the Sturdivant Community near Mineral Wells, Texas. He was the son of Raymond Manley Vaughan and Lena Elizabeth Loan Vaughan. Bill went to Mineral Wells public schools.

He graduated from Texas A&M University, was in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation. He was sent to Germany and was assigned to the infantry scout dog training school. He was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of First Lieutenant.

Bill worked for Northern Natural Gas Company for 20 years in Texas, New Mexico and Kansas. He held numerous jobs in different plant and office locations for Northern Natural. He started as Plant Chemist, was trained as the Safety Officer, and ultimately retired as District Manager of the western Kansas Region and returned to Texas in 1977.

He and his brother, John ''Shotgun'' Vaughan, built and operated K-Bob's Steak House in Mineral Wells for five years. He served three terms on the Palo Pinto County Appraisal District Review Board as Chairman and two terms as a Director and Chairman of the Palo Pinto County Appraisal District. He was a member of the Mineral Wells High School 50-year club and served as a President of that organization.

He was a member of the Mineral Wells First Presbyterian Church and had served as a Ruling Elder and Deacon in various Presbyterian Churches in Kansas and Texas since 1962. He served several years as Finance Chairman, as well as Pastoral Selection Committee(s), and Men's Fellowship Group(s). Bill was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville.

Bill married Cynthia Sadler on October 29, 1955, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville, Texas. Survivors include wife of 68 years, Cynthia Vaughan; daughter, Sally West and her husband Rob West, and granddaughter Sara West; son, Bill Vaughan and his wife Kathryn Vaughan and grandson Will Vaughan; and son, Todd Vaughan.
