Mortimer M. Sullivan

January 23, 1930 - December 26, 2023

"When a great man dies, for years the light he leaves behind him lies on the paths of men."
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Mortimer McSherry "Mort" Sullivan, a man whose light brightened the lives of those around him, was born on Thursday, January 23, 1930, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Mort's journey took him to Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1951.

On Saturday, December 27, 1952, Mort married the love of his life, Carolyn Bowers Sullivan. Their union was a source of strength and love, lasting an impressive 71 years.

Throughout his professional life, Mort contributed significantly to the aerospace industry, working for 35 years at LTV Aerospace, becoming the Chief Plant Engineer, and playing a pivotal role in the production of the B-2 aircraft.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mort was an amazing gardener, sharing his tomatoes with his community. He expressed his creativity through painting. He enjoyed the camaraderie (and the competition) of playing volleyball, winning several senior national volleyball championships.

Mort's legacy extends beyond his achievements, to the family he cherished. A beloved father to Brett (Edna), Bryan (Michele), and Stuart (Teri) Sullivan, Mort's love and guidance left an indelible mark on their lives. As a grandfather, his love and gentleness brought warmth and joy to the hearts of Christine, Robert, Bryan, Daniel, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Peter Sullivan.

However, Mort will be most remembered for his strong faith.

"Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children, it will be a refuge." – Proverbs 14:26

On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, Mort closed his eyes and awoke gazing at his Savior. He leaves a legacy of faithfulness and kindness in the lives of those who knew him. Even though we mourn the loss of this gentle and caring man, we also want to celebrate the beautiful life Mort lived and the love he shared.
