Jeremy Wendel Barnes

September 27, 1976 - February 12, 2024

Jeremy Wendel Barnes, age 47, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024. Jeremy was born on September 27, 1976 in Houston, Texas to David and Julie Wendel Barnes.

He was a 1995 graduate of Yoakum High School and a 1999 graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Studies. He continued his studies at Texas A&M by completing a Master of Science in Animal Science.

Jeremy married Caroline Blades Conner on December 31, 2016 and became the stepfather of Eloise Blades Oliver and John Calvin “Cal” Oliver. Their family was blessed with two daughters, Lucy Agnes Barnes and Sarah Travis “Sarita” Barnes.

Jeremy thrived being an entrepreneur, but his heart was the fullest while on the ranch, surrounded by cattle in a truck with his beautiful baby girls. Jeremy’s love for cattle came from many years of working alongside his grandfather, Travis Wendel, who was the strongest role model in his life. Jeremy strived to be a role model to his stepson, Cal Oliver, in the same way Travis was to him; taking him to ship cattle, check cattle and ride in the tractor with him while shredding pastures. Jeremy made time for precious moments with all four of the children. Eloise thinks of Jeremy every time she has donuts, and remembers all the fond memories of their frequent trips to the donut shop and early morning rides to school. Jeremy was deeply loved by his wife Caroline, and their daughters and his stepchildren. Jeremy was a passionate man, an aggressive risk taker and a fiercely loyal friend. Jeremy had a tremendous work ethic and often worked daylight to dark. If you were to ask his best friends to tell you their favorite thing about Jeremy, you would hear them say that he built strong relationships throughout his life. Jeremy has countless dear friends from the time he spent growing up in Yoakum, to his time in Aggieland as a Sigma Chi pledge of ‘95, then in Austin as a hardworking Bachelor, and on to Boerne where he built his life with his family. Whether it was time on the ranch working cattle, getting away to brush country, out on the water for some “Live Action” chasing trout, everyone that knew Jeremy likely has an unforgettable shared memory. He was famous for the wild idea of the “camo bus” that he loved the challenge of bringing to life. If you know, you know. He always had a funny story to tell, loved to make people laugh, and always made his time count in his endeavors. He was known to be very “hard on equipment” - Blew up a motor in Mexico, sank a boat in Baffin Bay, and he certainly made the Discount Tire Hall of Fame. Most recently, Jeremy spent a lot of time working in the storefront of his Dry Cleaning and Laundry stores at Lemon Tree Cleaners, where he never met a stranger. Small talk with regular customers was one of his favorite things, second only to being a father. Jeremy took fatherhood seriously and wanted nothing but the best for his children. Jeremy attended Currey Creek Church in Boerne, volunteered with the Boerne Little League, was a supporter of Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries and many youth livestock auctions.

Jeremy is survived by his wife, Caroline Conner Barnes; daughters, Lucy Agnes Barnes, Sarah Travis “Sarita” Barnes and stepdaughter, Eloise Blades Oliver; stepson, John Calvin “Cal” Oliver, V; parents, David and Julie Barnes; sister, Dr. Ashley Dawne Barnes. In-laws, Sarah Gaye and Peter Conner, Sarah Claire and Leo Corrigan, Kathryn and Chase Conner, Catherine and Evan Jones; two nephews and five nieces; many cousins, aunts, uncles and countless friends who loved Jeremy like family.

A private graveside service was held on Sunday, February 18th at Oak Grove Cemetery. Jeremy was buried at the feet of his beloved grandfather, Travis Walter Wendel.

Pallbearers were: Chase Conner, Caden Fishbeck, Cayson Fishbeck, Randy Fishbeck, Bruce McKee and Travis McKee. Honorary Pallbearers were David Barnes and Peter Conner.
