Jonathan Michael Ross

April 17, 1974 - August 4, 2022

Jonathan Michael Ross, age 48, of Frisco, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Jon was born at Baylor Hospital in Dallas on April 17, 1974 to Mike and Pat Ross. He grew up in Irving and graduated from MacArthur High School in 1992.

He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in 1997 from Texas A&M University. Jon received his Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Dallas in 2007. He attended graduate school on a full scholarship and an internship to work for the Dallas 2012 Olympic Bid Committee. It was a dream internship for him because he provided support for the competing Texas Olympians.

Jon was a Senior Pricing Analyst at Southwest Airlines, where he worked from 2001 to 2005 and again from 2010 to 2022. Between his two stints at Southwest, Jon moved to Miami, Florida and worked at Norwegian Cruise Line where he worked as a Revenue Analyst and where he met his wife Karen Soberon Ross. Jon and Karen were married in Coconut Grove on July 6, 2007.

Jon grew up as an active member of Plymouth Park United Methodist Church. He loved being in the youth group. Most recently, he was a member of First Frisco United Methodist Church. Jon coached Cristian and Gaby’s youth soccer teams and played on a softball team in Frisco and a softball team at Southwest Airlines.

Jon was a natural born athlete. He practically learned to throw balls before he could walk. He loved all sports as a participant and spectator. Jon played baseball at the YMCA and the River Bottoms growing up and he lettered in baseball at MacArthur High School, where he was a pitcher and played outfield. He was a dedicated runner and loved running half and full marathons, as well as charity runs with Karen, Cristian and Gaby. Jon loved hiking, swimming, biking, playing football and soccer with his family. He really loved traveling in the U.S. and internationally. Jon and his family went on a cruise every year and traveled to a new baseball stadium every summer.

Anyone who knew Jon knew that he loved sports. He loved the Mavericks, Cowboys, FC Dallas, and especially any Texas A&M team. If you needed a sports team or player statistics, Jon could probably tell you without looking it up. He learned his numbers by memorizing the jersey numbers and names of all the Dallas Cowboys football players when he was three years old. He loved all things Star Wars from the time he saw the first movie, but the action figures played football as much as they reenacted movie scenes.

Jon was a loving husband, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. He had a quiet, calm demeaner, but at the same time he was warm and friendly. He had a great smile, wonderful and playful sense of humor, and was so funny. He has been described by family and friends as kind, compassionate, sweet and beautiful inside and out. Jon was a people person. He made friends easily and it was not unusual for them to become friends for life. In recent years, he reconnected with childhood friends who became a close-knit group again. Anyone who knew Jon, loved Jon!

Jon was very sentimental and loved traditions, especially family and Texas A&M traditions. He loved teaching Karen, Cristian and Gaby those traditions. In fact, the most important constant in his life was connection to and love for his family. He has always valued the love of his large extended family. Growing up, Jon looked forward to family holidays, birthdays and the annual family summer trips to Camp Welton on his great- great grandfather’s home place on the Mulberry River in the Arkansas Ozarks.
