George Eckhardt Schwab

March 15, 1935 - April 5, 2024

George Eckhardt Schwab passed away peacefully on April 5th, 2024, at the age of 89. George had an incredible zest for life and his passing deeply affects all who loved him. A fifth generation Texan, George was born in Galveston, Texas to Dr. Edward H. Schwab, Jr. and Helen Pickard Schwab on March 15th, 1935.

George was raised in Galveston and received his High School diploma from New Mexico Military Institute in 1953. After High School, George enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country for 2 years. He continued his education receiving his BS in Agricultural Science at Texas A&M University, where he continued his graduate studies. George met his beloved wife, Carol Thomas, during this time. Carol was his sister Joan’s roommate at UT Austin. They were married on September 2, 1961. After completing his education, George and Carol moved to Glastonbury, Connecticut to begin George’s professional career as an Agricultural Officer for Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance based in Hartford, CT. Due to his diligent nature and exceptional work ethic he quickly rose through the ranks to become Vice President of the company. Seeing an opportunity to pivot in the market, George started his own Agricultural Investment Firm, AgriVest Inc in Glastonbury, CT in 1980. He made many wonderful friends while living in Connecticut, but he still longed for the Texas hill country and returned to his family ranch in Kendalia, TX in 1992. George continued on as an agricultural consultant until he retired in 2000.

In his free time, George loved to bird hunt, and was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited. He had many amazing adventures with his hunting buddies from Louisiana to Argentina, and often with his favorite hunting partners: his grandsons. An incredible cook, George was known for his southern hospitality and mouth-watering BBQ. When not working or hunting, George loved fishing, traveling with his family, skiing and reading. George Schwab was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen Schwab, as well as his brother Edward Schwab III and his sister Joan Padgett.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Carol Thomas Schwab; his 2 daughters, Mary Beth Connolly and her spouse Keith Connolly of San Antonio, Texas and Sarah Frances of Haines Alaska, his brother Bob Schwab of Kendalia, TX, his grandchildren Carson Kaufman of Portland, Oregon, Caroline Connolly of Boston, Massachusetts and John Connolly of San Antonio, Texas as well as a host of other loving relatives and dear friends. George was one in a million. He will be forever missed.
