October 31, 1949 - March 23, 2023 

Betty McCaskill Nash, 73, passed away on March 23, 2023, in San Marcos, Texas, surrounded by family.

Betty was born in Crockett, Texas on October 31, 1949, to Harold and Eloise McCaskill. She lived in the Nineveh Community in Leon County and attended Centerville ISD where she graduated high school in 1968. Betty married Don Nash of Leona, Texas on August 23, 1969, in the Malvern Community Church. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor's of Science in Education in May 1972. While attending Texas A&M, Betty was named recipient of a College of Education faculty achievement award. Betty taught kindergarten for 34 years in Crockett, Kerrville and Hays Consolidated School Districts. Over the course of her career, Betty won many awards. In 1996, while teaching kindergarten at Starkey Elementary in Kerrville ISD she was awarded Walmart Teacher of the Year. In 2004, while teaching at Elm Grove Elementary at Hays Consolidated ISD, she was awarded the Silver Apple award by KEYE, an Austin television station. Also, in 2008, while teaching at Elm Grove Elementary she was awarded Elm Grove Elementary School Teacher of the Year and Hays Consolidated District Teacher of the Year.

Betty continued to substitute teach kindergarten at Elm Grove Elementary for many years after retiring. She would say she needed the money to pay for her traveling, which she loved to do with family and friends. Betty was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and an active member of First United Methodist Church of San Marcos. She served as President of United Methodist Women and was Chair of the First United Methodist Church Martha's Circle, in San Marcos. She was an active member of Thursday Morning Ladies Bible Study and Community Bible Study, that included many close friends and provided her the opportunity to grow in her faith.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Eloise McCaskill, sister Linda Robinson, and brother-in-law Buddy Robinson.

Betty was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a wonderful Mimi to her grandchildren, a dear friend to many and a faithful Christian woman. She lived life to the fullest and faced challenges with faith, grace and joy.

Betty is survived by her husband, Don Nash of San Marcos; sons, Matt Nash and wife, Kristi of Bryan, Texas, and Brian Nash and wife, Lindsay of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Kendall, Maci, Lauren and David Nash; numerous nieces, nephews and many great friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. Funeral services for Betty McCaskill Nash will be held Wednesday, March 29 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in San Marcos. Interment will follow Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. at Tubb Cemetery in Leon County. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of San Marcos Foundation.
