William Van Hamilton

March 10, 1947 - March 29, 2024

The family of Dr. William V. Hamilton will receive friends Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1:00 until 3:00 at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home North.

Dr. William Van Hamilton, 77, of Meridian, Mississippi passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Dr. Hamilton was born in Dallas, Texas to William and Evelyn Hamilton on March 19, 1947. He graduated a lifelong Aggie from Texas A&M University in 1969. After college, Dr. Hamilton attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating class of 1973, subsequently completing one year of internship, followed by four years of residency. It was there that he met his soulmate, Shelley, whom he married in 1982.

Following residency, he established practice in North Kansas City, Missouri, as an obstetrician and gynecologist. He and his family settled in Meridian, Mississippi in 1995, where he continued his career in obstetrics and gynecology until his retirement in 2022. He was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for medicine with others, which he continued to do so after retirement. He delivered many thousands of babies during his career and touched the lives of far more. He leaves behind a legacy of dedicated, holistic care to his patients; his kind, gentle spirit; and his quick-witted nature.

Furthermore, he will be remembered by his family as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In 1987, and again the following year, he added the title of “Daddy” to his name and in January 2020, he became “Poppy” to a little girl that adored him. He loved spending time with his family- providing wisdom, sharing stories, listening to music, playing cards, and making jokes. He was always there with a calm demeanor to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.

In his free time, he was an avid photographer, always remembered as “the man behind the lens”, and passionate about candidly documenting the life of his family. He viewed the world and those around him, especially his wife, Shelley, as beautiful subjects to be captured and suspended in time.

Dr. Hamilton is survived by his loving wife, Shelley; daughter, Vanessa Henderson (Matthew); son, Thomas Hamilton (Jacqueline); granddaughter, Aster Van Hamilton; and his mother, Evelyn Pipkin.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Hamilton and his sister, Barbara Martin.
