William Bruce Griffith

August 9, 1938 - March 30, 2024

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead has risen William “Bruce” Griffith from death to life on March 30, 2024. Having suffered a traumatic brain injury on November 1, 2023, Bruce was unable to make a recovery and succumbed to the effects of the injury. By God’s grace and power Bruce was relieved of his flesh and obtained his glorious body In Christ at age 85.

(Romans 8:11, Philippians 3:21)

Bruce was born to Adron and Lillie (Ezma Grittman) Griffith in Pecos, Texas on August 9, 1938. He graduated from Fort Stockton High School in 1956. While attending Texas A&M University, he snatched Lucy Gale Wilmeth from all the single ladies and made her his wife on February 3, 1960. Their covenant of marriage to each other and Jesus, laid a strong foundation and precedence for their children and grandchildren. Loving assurance remains as the greatest inheritance for generations to come.

With Lucy’s love and support, Bruce gained an Animal Husbandry degree from Texas A&M in 1961 and a Masters of Science in 1972. His love and high regard for A&M remained with him the rest of his life resulting in all three of his sons also making it their college of choice. He also has an Aggie daughter in law and granddaughter as well. From college Bruce began working as a County Extension Agent. First in Terry County in 1961, then Crosby County in 1965, and finally in Howard County 1971. He was honored with a Distinguished Agent Award in 1976. In 1979 Bruce moved into the position of an Agriculture Loan Officer and Vice President of First National Bank of Big Spring, followed by becoming President of Coahoma State Bank and then Executive Vice President of Lone Star Bank. Retiring in 2013, he and Lucy made a move to San Angelo, TX in 2019.

Bruce loved people and had a heart to serve. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, Optimist Club, Coahoma Lions Club, and served on the Coahoma School Board for 12 years. He earnestly gave his heart and soul to serving as an Elder at Birdwell Lane Church of Christ from 1979-2019. He took seriously the Lord’s commissioning of him to oversee and care for the members of the church. Additionally, his favorite title of all was “D-Da” to his 7 grandchildren.

Loving God with all of his heart and loving others as himself perfectly epitomized Bruce Griffith. From the overflow of his love for God he loved his Family, his Country and Texas A&M. He will be sorely missed by these loved ones surviving him in death: Wife Lucy Griffith. Children: Bret and Lynne Griffith, Bart and LeeAnne Griffith, Mike and Elisa Griffith. Grandchildren: Will, Craig and Tyler, Whit, Colebin, Caden, Cason, and Canon. Siblings: Neal Griffith and wife Roi Sue. Nephew and Niece: John Griffith and Emily Boudreaux.

The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo for their oversight and help tending to Bruce over the last several months. Thank you to Visiting Angels, Jasmin Smith and Faith Martinez, for their attention and caretaking. Much love and thanks to the church family at Southgate Church of Christ for all the visits, meals and prayers. Thank YOU if you have prayed for, sent cards, made a phone call and shared the love of Jesus with us during this journey.
