Mr. Hayes was born on July 20, 1944, to Mr. J.W.C. and Mrs. Della (Calvert) Hayes in McCamey, TX. After completing high school in McCamey, TX (1962), Wicker attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. to play football. Then, Mr. Hayes transferred to Texas Tech University and played baseball. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Texas Tech University (1967) (1975). He would then marry Jackie Henderson on November 22, 1975, in Midland, TX. Wicker had worked several years as a teacher and coach, his last years of service were at Muleshoe, TX.

His greatest achievement was to be a loving husband and dad; devoted to his family. His second greatest achievement was receiving a Ph.D. in Environmental Health from Texas A&M University in 1981.

During the years at College Station, TX and Texas A and M, Wicker became a "Fightin' Texas Aggie" and proudly displayed his loyalty to A and M through his choice of Aggie clothing daily.

After graduation from Texas A and M, Mr. Hayes worked in oil and gas, medical waste disposal, and saline/brackish water. Wicker made many memories with family and friends. He also helped where needed; serving his churches: Klein United Methodist Church, Spring, TX., Cedar Shores Baptist Church, Morgan, TX., and Colonial Hill Baptist Church, Snyder, TX. Being the baseball enthusiast, Wicker served the Spring/Klein Baseball organization for several years.

Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Jackie of Snyder, TX.; Daughter, Hanna Hayes Hart and husband, Thomas of Anderson, TX.; Son, Hayden Bennett Hayes and wife, Erica of Snyder, TX.; Grandchildren: Henry Arlin Hayes (11), Hunter Robert Wilson Hart (10), Harper Grace Hayes (9), Harrison Wayne Hart (8); Mother-in-law, Loretta S. Phillips, Jr. (Rusty) of The Colony, TX., Bret Sapp (Brenda) of Red Oak, TX.; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W.C. and Della Hayes; and his brothers, Jimmy and Lloyd Lee Hayes.

Wicker's favorite Bible scripture was also his dad's favorite, beginning with these words: "To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven..." Ecclesiastes 3:1-15.

This obituary of a life well lived cannot be completed without acknowledging Dr. Kerr, Dr. Hough, Good Life, Building C staff, the Interim Hospice staff, and all those family and friends that visited Wicker during his battle with Lewey Body Dementia. Never a day went by without someone commenting on Wicker's character of being sweet, kind, funny, and good natured. Thank you to all. Peace and Joy to you dear Wicker.
