Ronald L. "Ron" Averitte

October 11, 1932 - February 24, 2024

Ronald "Ron" Averitte, age 91, of Palestine, Texas, a man of adventure, courage, and captivating stories, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024, in his home. Born on the 11th day of October 1932, also in Palestine, to parents Henry L. Averitte and Will R. “Billie” Crosby Averitte, Ron's life was a testament to his love for his country and his family.

A proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Ron completed his education in 1955, where he was an active member of the ROTC program. Following his military service, Ron embarked on a successful career in the oilfield industry, where his charisma and expertise were well-known and respected.

Ron was a faithful member of Grace Church, where he found spiritual solace and a community of friends and fellow believers. An avid outdoorsman, Ron's passion for fishing and hunting was matched only by his love for storytelling. Ron had a particular fondness for A&M Football, as well as football and basketball in general. He cherished these pastimes as much as he cherished the moments spent with his beloved family.

As we remember Ron, we celebrate a life lived with vigor and a heart filled with love. His legacy will continue to live on in the memories he created with those who knew him.

Ron Averitte's journey on this earth may have concluded, but the impact of his life will be felt for generations to come. He will be deeply missed by his friends, his community, and most of all, by his family, who were the center of his world. Ron's spirit will forever remain a guiding light to his wife of 69 years, Laura Frisby Averitte; daughter, Rhonda Wood, of Denton, Texas; sons, Randy Averitte and wife Sue Ann, of Mountain Village, Colorado, and Darrell Averitte and wife Jan, of Tyler, Texas; sisters-in-law, Randa Watson and Marie Chambers; and his beloved grandchildren, Michael Wood, Aaron Wood, Brian Averitte, Erika Averitte, and Rebecca Averitte. Also, left to cherish the memories are his great-grandchildren, Zoe Wood, Dylan Wood, and Weston Wood, along with many other family members and friends.

Ron joins in Heaven his parents Henry and Billie Averitte, his two brothers, Billie Boyd Averitte and Mike Averitte, and his son-in-law, Charles Wood.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 1st day of March 2024 at Rhone Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Averitte’s life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 2nd day of March 2024, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Calvert officiating the service. Interment will follow in Roselawn Park.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Darrell Averitte, Randy Averitte, Michael Wood, Aaron Wood, Brian Averitte, and Michael Averitte.

Funeral services for Ronald “Ron” Averitte are in care of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Highway 19, Palestine, Texas.
