Misty (Mitchell) Germaine

May 13, 1965 - April 1, 2024

Dr. Misty Mitchell Germaine, 58, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. Misty was surrounded and cared for by her loving family and she is now at peace.

Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite B; 3344 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Celebration of Life: 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2024 at Greenwood Memorial Park.

Misty was born May 13, 1965 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the second of three daughters born to Bill and Jill Mitchell. Misty grew to be a strong person of faith crediting her mother as her role model. Misty was active in her youth group at Hurst Christian Church where she made many life-long friends.

Misty was a 1983 graduate of Richland High School. She earned a Bachelor's of Science in Education from Stephen F, Austin University in 1986. She earned Master of Science in Education from Texas Wesleyan University in 1988. She completed her lifelong goal of earning a Doctor of Education from Texas A&M University in 2023.

Misty began her teaching career at Everman ISD teaching second grade. She would later teach first grade at Birdville ISD and Friendswood ISD. She would take a twelve-year hiatus from teaching to take care of her three young sons - something she never regretted. Misty would return to teaching kindergarten at Bryson Elementary in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD in 2006.

Misty was a talented and passionate educator. After teaching Kindergarten, she found her love of mathematics and became a math interventionist at Comanche Springs and Remington Point Elementary. The district took notice of her skillset of working with teachers and assisting them with instructional strategies, so she was hired as an instructional math coach at Gilliland Elementary then onto becoming the district elementary math coordinator. For 18 years, Misty brought her passion for student learning to work every day. Her focus and mission were for every student to believe in themselves with math and for every teacher to know that each student has the ability to be successful in math. In addition, Misty was an active member of Texas Association of Supervisors of Mathematics (TASM) where she served on the board as the Parliamentarian.

Besides being an accomplished educator, Misty loved her family, friends and coworkers and invested in those relationships. Misty met her husband Jack while attending Stephen F. Austin University. Together they raised three sons of whom they are very proud. Despite coming from a family of all girls, Misty became a good boy mom for her three sons. She imbued academic excellence in her sons and actively supported their extracurricular activities. She embraced being a sports mom and being a band mom too. She was active in her church. She also loved to travel, Broadway musicals, reading and being a mom. Most of all she enjoyed family gatherings with her husband, sons, parents, sisters, cousins, and nieces. Hers was a full life, well lived.

Misty is preceded in death by her grandparents Euel & Helen Harper and TC & Dorothy Mitchell; aunt, Berinda Webb; cousin, Violet Harper; and father-in-law, Jack H. Germaine.

Misty is survived by her husband, Jack K.
