Valeriano E. Cadena, Sr. 

March 6, 1929 - April 2, 2024 

Val Cadena, Sr., age 95, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born on March 6, 1929.

Val was a lifelong resident of Del Rio and a graduate of Texas A&M University after serving his country faithfully in the U.S. Army. He proposed the name United Civic Organization which was ultimately adopted. He also served his community by owning and operating a local business, was a Val Verde County Commissioner for three straight terms from 1965-1976, and was also Val Verde County Judge from 1991-1994. Mr. Cadena was a Lifetime member of Del Rio Rotary Club, served as the President of the Val Verde Hospital Corporate Board of Directors for 10 Years, and was a life member of Sacred Heart Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Hernan and Beatriz Cadena; a sister: Beatrice Cadena; and a brother: Butch Cadena.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 70 years, Florisa Cadena; his sons Val Cadena, Jr. (Class of 1976), Dr. Louis H. Cadena (Class of 1980), Honorable Judge Robert E. Cadena (Class of 1984), his daughter Florisa “Lisa” Cadena Craig (Class of 1993) and grandchildren, Dr. Valerie Cadena Vargas (Class of 2006), Val E. Cadena III (Class of 2008), Kyle L. Cadena (Class of 2009), Karah Cadena Scalero (Class of 2010), Zachary Cadena (Class of 2014), Corryn Cadena Bermea (Class of 2014), Cole E. Cadena (Class of 2017), Cade Cadena (Class of 2019), Emily M. Craig (Class of 2021), Korey Cadena, Andie M. Craig and Trinity G. Craig and 9 great grandchildren.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
