Lonnie Ray Jameson 

January 7, 1936 - November 27, 2023 

Lonnie Ray Jameson passed away peacefully at his home on November 27, 2023. He was born on January 7, 1936, in Borger, TX, to William Benton Jameson and Merceadas May (Miller) Jameson, and grew up in Phillips, TX with his older brother, Willie Ben, and younger twin siblings, Lynda and Leonard.

Growing up, he was involved in Boy Scouts and enjoyed time spent outdoors hunting and fishing. He went to Boys State, sang in the school choir, performed in musicals, and was a member of the Minors Quartette. Lonnie loved sports of every kind and was very athletic throughout his life. He was proud of his time spent playing football for Chesty Walker as a Phillips Blackhawk (Class of ’54) and going to the state tennis tournament in doubles.

Anyone who knew Lonnie knew how honored he felt as a graduate of Texas A&M University Class of ’58. He originally wanted to be a Chemical Engineer, but learned during one of his labs that he was color blind, which was quite a surprise at that age! He changed his major to Geological Engineering, which would later result in a career in the Oil and Gas Industry. While at A&M, he was in the Corps of Cadets, won the distinction of expert sharpshooter, and was a member of the rifle team to go to the national rifle meet in Tennessee. He served as executive commander, carried the rank of lieutenant commander, and was a Distinguished Military Graduate. Lonnie then went into the U.S. Army, Artillery, and completed Guided Missile School, Air Defense Artillery Battery Grade; he was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

He met the love of his life, Shirley Mason, at his sister’s party. He said he knew she was different from all the other girls and sat talking with her throughout the evening. They were engaged and later married in the chapel on the Texas A&M University campus on July 11, 1958. He spent his life devoted to Shirley. The center of their marriage was a deep faith and love of God. Lonnie was very involved in church activities, teaching classes, leading singing, and helping the youth group. He was a deacon and then elder at the Church of Christ at Borger, TX, then later, an elder at Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in Brady, TX. Lonnie was an avid defender of Creation and the Gospel of Christ. He and Shirley raised their children with a knowledge of and faith in the Bible. He said many times his only wish on this earth was that all his children and grandchildren spend eternity in heaven.

Lonnie was a man of many talents…he baked bread, raised honeybees to harvest the honey to help improve his son’s allergies, tended his garden, created stained-glass windows, and was very artistic with ink, watercolors, acrylics, and oils. He coached his sons in little league baseball, was an avid jogger and tennis player, and always wanted to learn more about the world around him. He was musically inclined, had a beautiful singing voice and played the guitar, ukulele, harmonica, (he always called it a French harp), and even tried to learn the violin. Lonnie was a very generous man, always helping those in need whenever possible. He was successful in his career, and eventually started a new business with Odis McClellan called Ray Mac Energy. Once he was ready to retire, he and Shirley moved to Brady, TX, to fulfill his lifelong dream of living in the hill country.

Lonnie is survived by his children, Rodney [wife Darla, Shelby (husband Shay) and Logan (wife Kori)], Brent [wife Leah, Tanner (Rachel) and Tayler (husband Ty)], and Angela [husband Eric Bierman, Jacob (wife Katy, Aaron, Levi, Nicole), Jeffrey (wife Janell, Jeremy, Jonah), Mason (wife Sadie), and Michaela]; his brother, Leonard Jameson (wife Margie), numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, WB Jameson and May Record, his brother WB Jameson Jr, and his sister Lynda Wood.

Visitation/Memorial in Brady, TX will be held on Friday, December 1, from 11:00-12:00 PM at Sunset Ridge Church of Christ, with Virgil Webb officiating. Visitation/Viewing in Borger, TX will be held on Sunday, December 3, from 4:00-6:00 PM at Burgin Funeral Home, and on Monday, December 4, the Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM at the Church of Christ at Borger, with Richard Kasko officiating, with an extended visitation time with the family held immediately following. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park, Fritch, TX.

The family appreciates the care given by Solaris Hospice of Brady, the amazing and personal attention given by Lee and Dana Burgin at Burgin Funeral Home of Borger, TX, and our incredible friends and Brothers and Sisters in Christ in Brady, Lubbock, Borger and Fritch. Each of you made this difficult time bearable. Our blessed assurance is in Christ Jesus and we know we will meet again.
