William Riley Walker 

August 21, 1931 - March 20, 2024 

William Riley Walker, 92, of Clyde passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in an Abilene hospice facility. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024, at Clyde First Baptist Church with Dr. Toby Henson and Dr. Mike Auten officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Riley was born August 21, 1931, in Abilene, Texas to William “Buck” Horton and Addie Mae (Clements) Walker. He graduated from Abilene High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University. He served in the US Army from 1951 until 1954. He married Roberta Brown in Abilene on June 3, 1955, and they moved to Clyde from Abilene in 1965. He worked as a civil engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation, retiring after 32 years. He then worked for Kellogg, Brown and Root Engineering for 15 years. He was a member and deacon of the Clyde First Baptist Church.

Riley was an avid Texas A&M Aggie and he loved fly fishing. He could “out fish” anyone and taught all of his family to fish. He loved playing 42 with family and friends. Riley took great pride in his family and loved taking care of them. He was especially proud to be “Dadaw” to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Riley’s kind, quiet and loving manner will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Roberta Walker of Clyde; three daughters, Lisa Connel and husband John, Teresa Howard and husband Scott and Tracie Sample and husband Mike; seven grandchildren, Ryan Connel and wife Kira, Courtney Metcalf and husband Brian, Libby Gibson and husband Ryan, Blake Howard and wife Mindy, Brooke Howard, Riley Sample and Jake Sample; ten great grandchildren, Corban, Caleb, Ellie and Olivia Connel, Molly Metcalf, Landry and Kade Gibson, Eli, Emmy and Easton Howard; nephew, Pete Walker and niece, Susan Walker.

Riley was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gail and Kerry Walker and sister-in-law, Bobbie Walker.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Riley’s memory to Clyde First Baptist Church Library Fund or the charity of your choice.
