John Scott Mercer 

October 30, 1968 - March 13, 2024 

“Scott” Mercer passed away in his sleep March 13, 2024 at his home in Taylortown, LA.

Born October 30, 1968, in Bossier, LA he led a great life. He attended grade school in Kenner, LA, attending Brother Martin high school, and LSU Baton Rouge. He was an active cub scout, attended middle school as a GT student, and was a member of the civil air patrol, advancing to the leader position, the youngest to ever achieve that rank. He was an ROTC cadet in high school. He enlisted in the U S Army and was an Airborne qualified soldier. After his tour in the Army he attended Texas A&M University, achieving a degree in finance. He worked in California for a time, then moved to Taylortown, LA., where he managed his grandfather’s rental properties. He and his sister, Valerie, then opened a bar and music club, The Taylortown Store Tavern, and hosted live music events and was the site of music videos. In the past 20 years, he has become a general contractor and built numerous houses at Taylortown and rented them out. He also has managed family and friend investments and properties. He has been a life long musician, focusing on drums and piano and guitars. He had a big heart and loved helping others.

He is survived by his mother, Maurice Cambre, his father, Hodges Mercer, his step mother, Paula Mercer, his sister, Valerie Selman, niece, Riley Selman, nephew, Daxton Selman, step sister, Melissa LeBlanc, and, the love of his life and partner, Dr Dandan He.

A celebration of his life will be held at Boone Funeral Home, 2156 Airline Dr., Bossier City, on Thursday March 28, 2024 @ 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Robinson’s Rescue, 2515 Line Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71104. 318-221-0017 https://robinsonsrescue.org/
