George Norman Wilson

June 30, 1938 - December 8, 2023

George Norman Wilson, born June 30, 1938, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 8, 2023. Norman was the son of George Middleton and Mary Casady Wilson, a lifelong resident of El Campo, Texas third generation rice farmer and cattleman. He married Ann Reed, his high school sweetheart, 64 years ago in August. He had farming in his blood - his grandfather, J.F. Wilson, came to El Campo in 1894 and put in his first rice crop in 1907. Norman loved farming and ranching and also the people he dealt with in these endeavors.

He is survived by his wife Ann, children Russell Wilson and his wife DeAnn, Allison Wilson Glastad, Frank Wilson and his wife Michelle. Grandchildren Reed Wilson, Caleigh and Jordan McDaniel, Karl and Christina Glastad, Lee and Kristin Glastad Nankervis, Jacob and Bailey Glastad, Luke and Erica Glastad, Elizabeth Wilson, Emily Wilson, and great grandchildren Erik, Charlie and Arthur Nankervis, and Dean and Lucy Glastad.

Norman was a 1956 graduate of El Campo High School and a graduate of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of ’60. He was an airplane owner and pilot, life member and past Master of El Campo Masonic Lodge #918 and Fayetteville Lodge #240, Scottish Rite 32º Mason, member of Ganado Chapter and Council Knight Templar, St. John Commandery 101, served 26 plus years on the Rice Farmers Co-Op Board of Directors, served on the Wharton Co Farm Bureau Board, and various other farming/ranching related organizations. He was also an Eagle Scout.

The most important thing about Norman is that he loved his family, and he trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior. One of the verses he requested be read at his funeral is John 11:25 where Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” His family is thankful to have had 85 years with him.

Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 16 at First Methodist Church in El Campo. A graveside Masonic ceremony will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. A meal at the church Fellowship Hall will follow.

Memorial donations in memory of Norman may be made to the Masonic Lodge #918 of El Campo or First Methodist Church of El Campo.
