Francisco Sandoval Ybarbo 

July 24, 1948 - January 25, 2024 

Francisco Sandoval Ybarbo, 75, passed away during the morning hours of Thursday, January 25, 2024 in Houston, Texas. Frank was born in Nixon, Texas July 24, 1948 and is the 3rd child of Domingo and Aurora Ybarbo and beloved brother to Raymond, Irene, John, and Cecelia.

In his formative years Frank attended the school of the little 500 and was a graduate of Nixon High School. He won the 1967 & 1968 UIL State Track and Field State Championships, resulting in the recognition of Frank and John Ybarbo Day to be held every October 12th in Nixon, Texas. Frank went on to run track during his attendance at Blinn College, Texas A&M University and the United States Marine Corps. He participated in meets around the world, eventually serving as an alternate on the USA TRACK Olympic Team. Being a brilliantly gifted individual, Frank held several Bachelor and Master's degrees in the sciences and criminal justice.

Though there are many, some of his highest accomplishments were being a formative member of the homicide specialist team known as the Chicano Squad in Houston, Texas. He then went on to be an educator of Honors Level Biology and Chemistry at Sam Houston High School also in Houston, Texas receiving Teacher of the Year of Houston Independent School District as well as Coach of the Year in the sport of soccer winning 2 District Championships and mentoring many individuals along the way.

Francisco Ybarbo mentored and impacted so many lives that continue to be a testament to his love of God, Education and the Law.

He is survived by his three children Daphne Uballe (Ethan), Valerie Vargas (Robert), and Francisco Gil Ybarbo; six grandchildren Kieran and Rita Ybarbo, Nathaniel Sanchez, Avery, Amanda and Rachel Vargas. Many family and countless others whose lives were impacted and benefitted from his mentorship shall go forward to be his legacy Eternal.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 6:00pm-8:00pm with Rosary at 7:00pm at Finch Funeral Chapel Nixon, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Nixon, Texas. Interment immediately following at Nixon Latin American Cemetery. Reception to follow at Nixon Community Center.
