Joe Perkins Giddens, Sr. 

July 28, 1924 - January 4, 2021 

Joe Perkins Giddens, Sr., 96, of Leander, Texas passed away January 4th, 2021 of non-Covid related causes.

Joe was a lifetime farmer and rancher born in Leander and lived the majority of his life near his birthplace. He and his wife of 72 years lived on the 6J Ranch. He attended Texas A&M University and then served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. After the war he spent 31 years at LCRA and retired in 1987. He served his community in many ways including the Leander I.S.D. School Board and multiple organizations and youth clubs. Joe was a member of the Leander United Methodist Church.

The only thing he loved more than his beloved ranch was his family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren being an exceptional role model for each of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lois and Beth Giddens and his brother Bernice Giddens, and daughter-in-law Kyra Giddens.

Joe is survived by his wife of 72 years, Joan Giddens; son Joe P. Giddens, Jr.; daughters Jan Giddens Tredemeyer and husband Larry; Judith Giddens Sweazea and husband Kerry; son James M. Giddens and wife Karen. He leaves behind granddaughters Tiffany Paige Giddens, Chelsea Irene Tredemeyer, and Ellen Michelle Giddens and Lauren and grandsons Brent Tredemeyer and wife Jennifer; Chadlyn Sweazea and wife Kelley; Andrew Tredemeyer and wife Christi; Jeffrey Sweazea and wife Kelly; Mason Giddens. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and his sisters-in-law Winifred Giddens and Emogene Champion.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm on January 7, 2021, at Bagdad Cemetery, Leander, Texas.
