Johney Patrick Cockburn

August 22, 1941 - August 1, 2022

Johney Patrick Cockburn, 80, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022. Services will be private.

Johney was born on August 22, 1941, in Lubbock, TX to Johney and Thelma (Vaden) Cockburn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A life well lived - that's what comes to mind when we consider Pat's life. He was the kind of person who lit things up and never was at a loss for a good time. Anytime Pat was with us, we all had fun. Making sure that all were included was his main objective.

Pat went to his heavenly reward on August 1, 2022 after fighting cancer for many years. He was
born in Lubbock, Texas on August 22, 1941 and soon moved to Artesia, New Mexico as dad Johney was chasing the oil business. He joined brother Tim and mother Thelma in watching things in the oil patch develop in southeastern New Mexico. Since the family had moved across the street from the local Presbyterian church, Pat became a Presbyterian. When he was not a great deal older, the family moved to Fort Worth and Pat enjoyed a wonderful upbringing in West Fort Worth close to Rivercrest Country Club.

Then, it was on to a ranch in Lampasas County, Texas for so many young man adventures. This was when brother Tom joined the fray. Pat attended his formative years of school in Lampasas, graduated and headed off to Texas A & M College (at that time), but not without falling deeply in love with his high-school sweetheart, Cherry Pritchett. Pat and Cherry were later married and blessed with three children: Cathy Dawn McBride (Terry) of Nashville, Tennessee; Jeffrey Sean Cockburn (Tonya) of Lampasas, Texas and Jason Patrick Cockburn (Meredith) of Portland, Oregon. Pat and Cherry’s love endured to the end. His grandchildren and great grandchildren are numerous and also mourn his passing.

Professionally, Pat enjoyed a storied career, from collecting debts in east Fort Worth for Texas
Consumer Finance to selling iron lungs in the Northwestern United States, to helping start the careers of young engineers at Sematech and Motorola in Austin, Texas. All along, he managed to be a wonderful brother, father, friend and mentor.

How we remember one who is no longer here is the measure of a man's life. We will always
remember Pat as faithful, kind, caring and truly interested in how you were getting along in life. No
matter who you were or what station in life you held, he cherished and respected you. We're going to miss him.

Survivors include his sons, Jeff Cockburn and wife Tonya, Jason Cockburn and wife Meredith; daughter, Cathy McBride and husband Terry; brothers, Tim Cockburn, Tom Cockburn and wife Susan; grandchildren, Beth Ann, Stella Cyrus and husband Braison, Lily, Cullen and fiance Kelci, Cohen, Conley, Dominic, Vaden; and great-grandchildren, Claudia, Hannah, Mac, Bruce, and Bear.
