George Carl Nichols 

October 23, 1946 - March 1, 2024 

George Carl Nichols, 77, of Grapevine, Texas passed away on March 1, 2024 due to complications of Covid—19. Burial will take place on Thursday, March 14th at 11AM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorial service will take place on Thursday, March 14th at 1PM at Living Word Lutheran Church in Grapevine.

George was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on October 23rd, 1946 to R.P. Nichols and Gwen Franck Nichols Keyes. He graduated from Abilene Cooper High School in 1966 where he played Defensive Tackle for several undefeated football teams. He was active in The Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and the Order of the Arrow.

He graduated from Texas A&M University, was a member of the Corps (A-Battery), received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology in 1970 and a Masters in Computer Science in 1972. He then served in the Army as a Computer Operations Officer and Personnel Administration Officer in Fort Monroe, Virginia and Korea, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forced Expeditionary Medal. After discharge, he pursued careers in Computer Sales & Support and Finance, while earning a Master of Business Administration in 1979 and a Master of Science in 1982 from the Braniff Graduate School at The University of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his father R.P. Nichols, his mother Gwen Keyes, and his sister Penny Hunter.

George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lindelle, his sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Lumi Nichols and Mark and Krissa Nichols and brother and sister-in-law Steve and Mary Nichols. He was a proud grandparent of 5 grandchildren.

George loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. But above all, he was a man of faith with a deep conviction that Jesus loved him, forgave his sins, and would welcome him into heaven by grace through faith. George’s trust in his Lord was an important part of his life, which he often shared in conversations with his family. His most beloved hymn, “Amazing Grace”, expressed George’s strong belief in the power and grace and the hope of eternal life for himself and anyone who trusts in Jesus.

After his dedication to God and family, his passions were Texas A&M, college football, and high school football. After retirement, his hobby of watching the stock market became his latest challenge. Instead of merely following the market, he avidly studied the financial news and spent many happy hours developing his own portfolio – often engaging in friendly competition with his mother on who could discover the best new stock first.

George cherished his weekly phone calls with his friends and family. Other interests were military history, studying his family ancestry and traditions, sharing meals and stories (many, many stories) with friends and family, and travel. He especially enjoyed the time he was stationed in Korea learning about the people, culture, and food.

George showed God’s grace in all he did – a wonderful and loyal friend to everyone who ever entered his life.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations to be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
