Mary Shannon (Burch) Jenkins 

June 10, 1959 - December 25, 2023 

Mary Shannon (Burch) Jenkins went to worship at the feet of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 25, 2023.

Her Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Antioch Community Church, 505 N 20th Street, Waco, Texas 76707. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S 5th Street, Waco, Texas 76706. Brother Rick Cundieff will be officiating the services. There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco, Texas 76710.

Shannon was born to Clarence (Pat) Burch and Marguerite (Baxter) Burch on June 10, 1959, in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Westbury High School in 1977 and received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas A&M University in 1981. She married James (Jim) Jenkins on June 2, 1984, in Bryan, Texas. After Jim’s graduation from veterinary school in 1987, they lived in Independence, Texas, for a short time and then moved to Stamford, Texas, where their daughter Casey was born. In 1988 they bought a veterinary clinic in Llano, Texas, where their son Tyler was born in 1990. Shannon worked part time in the clinic for about 10 years until she began her career as a fulltime housewife for about 3 years. She then earned her teaching certificate and taught first grade in Kingsland for four years. For the next 12 years Shannon was the Assistant Secretary at First Baptist Church of Llano. They then moved to Crowley, Texas, where she resided until her death.

Shannon loved to camp, and her favorite place was Inks Lake State Park. For eight years she loved to quilt. She enjoyed surprising family members with new quilts and making baby quilts for those she loved. She was a long time member of Bible Study Fellowship, a member of the Llano Emmaus community for many years, a member of First Baptist Llano for 16 years and a member of First Baptist Burleson for three years. One of Shannon’s greatest passions was for missions. Over the years she went on numerous mission trips in Texas and the US, five trips into central Mexico, one trip to Peru and three trips to Guatemala.

After her love for her savior Jesus Christ, Shannon’s greatest love was for her family. She had a huge heart filled with love for everyone, but her greatest love on this earth was her grandchildren. Even during her illness, a huge smile would appear when any of them walked into the room. Nana was most content with one or all four piled up in the bed cuddling with her.

Shannon was preceded in death by her father, Pat Burch; her mother, Marguerite Burch Jones Reedy; stepfathers, Paul Jones, and Clyde Reedy; and her sister, Toni Burch.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Jenkins; her daughter, Casey Wells, and son-in-law, Benjamin; her son, Tyler Jenkins and daughter-in-law, Stacia; grandchildren, Abner and Ellory Wells, and Lynleigh and Avrie Jenkins; as well as many other family and friends.
