Louis Cushing Stipp 

June 6, 1936 - March 9, 2024 

Louis Cushing Stipp passed away Saturday, the 9th of March 2024 after a lengthy illness. He was 87 years of age.

Louis was born in Big Spring, Texas on the 6th of June 1936 to Mary Cushing Stipp and Hubert C. Stipp. His mother’s family was a pioneer ranching family. His father was one of the early Petroleum Engineers in the Permian Basin. Louis was proud of his parents and his West Texas heritage. He attended the Big Spring public school system, graduating from Big Spring High School in May 1954. In high school he served as a class officer and captain of the football team in his junior and senior years.

In 1954 Louis enrolled in Texas A&M University to learn how to earn a living in the oil business. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1959 after earning BS Degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Geological Engineering. At Texas A&M, Louis was in the Corps of Cadets, and served as an officer in the Petroleum Engineering Club and was editor of the school’s Engineering magazine.

Louis began his career in the oil business with Shell Oil Company. He later worked 10 years for Tenneco Oil and was Senior Vice President for TransOcean Oil. He was a founding officer of Citation Oil and Gas and Tradition Resources. He was a member of several professional organizations. Louis loved the oil industry and the friendships made during his over 50 years in the business.

Louis is survived by his wife Judy of 47 years. He loved her dearly and appreciated her insight, wisdom, and caring support. Louis is also survived by his son David Louis Stipp and wife Sharlene, daughter Virginia Ann Lawrence and husband Daniel, grandchildren Robert David Stipp, Lauren Elizabeth Stipp and great-grandson Nolan Ryan Galaviz. He loved them all very much.

Louis also had an extended family that he cared a great deal about which includes Kathleen Stipp, Donna Walden, Emily Pedersen, Thomas Walden and numerous close friends. He especially appreciated all their love and support during his extended illness.

Louis loved life and all that it offered. He was described by his friends as “always smiling and kind.” He was a wonderful man, devoted husband, and friend. Louis’s faith was important to him; he was a member and worshipped at First Presbyterian Church. May he rest in peace.
