John Kenneth Means 

January 31, 1947 - February 14, 2024 

John Kenneth Means was born in McKinney, Texas on January 31, 1947 to loving parents Thomas Garvin Means and Lena Almeta Williams. He passed away the morning of February 14, 2024 after just turning seventy-seven, after losing his battle with a rare cancer.

John attended Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Tx and graduated in 1965. John served in the Army from 1967 to 1970 attaining the rank of Corporal. He completed a one-year tour in Vietnam serving as Mechanic and Crew Chief on the historic CH-47 Chinook Helicopter. During his time in the Army John earned Sharpshooter on the M-14, Expert Marksman on the M-16, the Air Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with a Silver Service Star.

John attended Texas A&M University from 1970 to 1974 achieving a Bachelor’s of Science in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences. One of his greatest achievements, he continued to love the University throughout his life, always proudly wearing his Aggie gear everywhere he went. He was also a Century Club member of Texas A&M and avidly followed Texas A&M football.

John was an extraordinary husband, father, brother and friend. His love for his family knew no bounds. John was considered by many to be a good friend with a kind heart. John was known for his love of fishing, which would become the inspiration for the college degree he pursued at Texas A&M. In his later years, John enjoyed bowling and was an avid bowler. He was active in his local bowling leagues and participated in multiple national tournaments every year. He loved teasing his friends on league night trying to get a rise out of them. Helping new and veteran bowlers at his job at the Bowling Pro Shop was his passion in retirement. John bowled his first 300 game during a tournament in 2015 and received numerous awards from the PBA.

John is preceded in death by both parents. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving and supportive wife of over fifty years Janie, sons, James Thomas Means (wife, Christine), Kyle David Means, adopted son, Bob Terrill Jr., sister, Almeta Lemons (husband, John), brother, Thomas Michael Means (wife, Sammie), as well as his grandchildren who he loved dearly, Alyssa Danielle Means (husband, Jan Paul Ducos), Matthew Thomas Means, Allyson Evangeline Means and adopted grandchildren, Garrett, Robin and Sarah Terrill. John leaves behind a life and legacy that will not soon be forgotten. He will be missed dearly by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him.
