Tommy Avent Tillery 

April 9, 1944 - February 17, 2024 

Tommy Avent Tillery, 79, of Wichita Falls, passed away on February 17, 2024.

Tommy was born on April 9, 1944, in Gilmer, Texas. After Tommy graduated from Corsicana High School in 1963, he went on to study math and physics at Texas A&M University. He was a lifelong fan of the Aggies and hoped to one day have a child or grandchild graduate from A&M.

After graduating with a degree in math and physics, he started his first job at Texaco as a geophysicist. He was drafted into the Army and served during Vietnam. In 1988, he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, with his family and sought a degree in radiology, graduating from MSU. He worked at UT Southwestern in the field of research MRI and taught MRI physics at El Centro college in Dallas, Texas, until he retired.

In 1975, Tommy met Nita Coffey at their apartment complex in Houston, Texas. Tommy and Nita got married on January 24, 1977. Tommy and Nita went on to have two children, Jennifer Psencik of Wichita Falls, and Jason Tillery of Wichita Falls. Tommy and Nita enjoyed playing tennis, playing bridge and going to their childrens’ sporting events. Tommy earned his pilot’s license in the late 60’s while in the Army and always enjoyed taking his family flying around Houston to look at Christmas lights.

Since retirement, Tommy spent his time visiting with his family and watching his grandchildren participate in sporting and school events. He also enjoyed watching college and pro football and riding his motorcycle.

Tommy Tillery was predeceased in death by his parents and two brothers Jim Tillery and Brian Tillery. He is survived by his wife Nita Tillery, children Kimberly Michelle Bolette, Jennifer Psencik, and Jason Tillery; grandchildren Rayden Psencik, Kiernan Tillery, and Lilliana Tillery; and sister Dessie Llamas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. No memorial services planned at this time.
