Roll Call Tribute

Michael Scott Allen 

September 24, 1971 - January 11, 2024 

Our loving dad, husband, son, and brother, Michael Scott Allen went home to Jesus on January 11, 2024, at his home in Highland Village, TX surrounded by his loved ones. He bravely endured cancer and treatments for the past 3.5 years doing absolutely everything he could to be here with us. Throughout this time and especially in his final days we received an outpouring of love, prayers and blessings from family, friends, co-workers, our community and church that have strengthened our faith and changed us forever.

Mike was born on September 24, 1971, to Linda Lois and Hardy Richard Allen in Heidelberg, Germany. He grew up in Houston, Texas playing baseball, football, and golf but his true love was fishing. If Mike could fish every day, all day he would. His stepfather, Travis, taught him how to fish and from that day forward he was hooked.

Mike graduated from North Shore High School in 1990 and went on to graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering from the best university in Texas – Texas A&M University in College Station. While there, Mike joined the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and even though distance and life might have separated these brothers after college he cherished that time and memories and would often share funny stories with his family. During this time, he also met his college sweetheart and best friend, Janet Correll. They were married on December 18, 1993, in Houston, Texas and together began their life of adventures.

Following his graduation in 1995, Mike and Janet moved to Dallas-Fort Worth and Mike began a long successful career as a civil engineer working for several firms. He excelled as an engineer and worked on land development projects across the metroplex. During this time, Mike and Janet started their family and moved to Frisco, TX. Mike became the world’s best girl dad to two beautiful daughters: Conley and Abby. He was a dedicated and loving father and was willing to paint fingernails, fix hair, watch princess movies, attend dance recitals and partake in many years of daddy-daughter dances. Mike encouraged his daughters to do their best and to work hard to achieve their dreams.

In 2009, Mike felt led to go back to school but this time for a completely different career path, Nursing. He had always thought about a career in healthcare, but it was after the loss of his stepfather Travis to cancer that led Mike to his decision. After many thoughtful prayers and talks with Janet, he took the leap of faith and was accepted into the Texas Women’s University weekend program. Mike graduated magna cum laude in 2012 and went on to accept an ICU position at Baylor All Saints in Fort Worth and later moved to Medical City Denton where he thrived as a nurse and gained friends for a lifetime. These friends would be the same ones who lovingly nursed and cared for him during his last days.

Mike continued his nursing education and completed his graduate degree in nursing in 2019 and accepted a nurse practitioner position at Texas Bone and Joint with a plan to continue working part-time at Medical City Denton but that changed when he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that spread to the brain and bone in 2020. Throughout his cancer treatments Mike strived to find joy wherever and whenever he could. He would wear funny socks to his chemo treatments and get laughs from the nurses. He knew their job was difficult and if he could bring a little laughter to their day and his he would. During times of stability when he was feeling a little better, he went fishing and enjoyed time with his family and friends.

Mike had a gift of telling the best stories and jokes. He was known for sharing a good dad joke before night shift and always had a gross story to share at the dinner table. He gave his family a life of love and laughter and created a legacy for his daughters. He was fiercely loyal, honest, hardworking, dedicated, extremely funny, sarcastic, wicked smart, patient (mostly) and loving. He loved his family – always. He told us that he loved us every single day until the end. He was incredibly proud of his daughters. He loved that they are ambitious and have goals in life. He also taught his daughters that there are failures in life too but if you did your absolute best then that is what mattered. What would make him sad was when he saw potential in someone who did not take advantage of it.

Mike’s loyalty had depths deeper than the ocean. If you were a friend to Mike, he would give you everything and anything. He had your back 1000%. Being this loyal came with times of deep hurt too but that never stopped his ability to trust those he had loving, healthy relationships with.

Mike’s humor was something to witness and at times could be considered inappropriate but still funny. He had a vast memory bank of movie lines that were part of his daily conversations. He loved Harry Potter, Star Wars, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Austin Powers and any movie with Will Farrell or Adam Sandler. If Pitch Perfect was on the television, he would always watch it and we would get a little giggle over it. Mike and Janet celebrated their 25th anniversary with a trip to Scotland and from that point Mike embraced this beautiful country and culture often enjoying scotch whiskey tastings and as a sept to Clan Macdonald of Clanranald he was the proud owner of a kilt vowing he would wear his kilt to walk his daughters down the aisle.

What Mike loved most besides his family was Jesus. He is a believer and knew where he was going, and he wanted to go but he would rather have waited a while longer. While his earthly life was short, his memory will live on forever in our hearts. He is now pain free and with his Savior, asking a plethora of questions he would ask in bible study and looking around for the best fishing lakes.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Hardy Richard Allen, his stepfather Travis Mueller, his grandparents Millard Sr. and Alma (Arrendall) Smith, his grandmother Ila Mae Miles, grandparents Herbert and Aileen Mueller, his father and mother-in-law Stanley and Jo Ann Correll and brother-in-law Andrew Correll. Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Janet Jean (Correll) Allen of Highland Village, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law Conley Malone (Allen) Ryan and Tom Ryan of Madison, Alabama; his daughter Abby Jean Allen of Highland Village, Texas; his mother Linda Lois Mueller of Denton, Texas; his brother and wife Patrick and Rebecca Allen; his brother Jack Allen; his sister-in-law Christine Correll, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Robin and Don Fannin; his sister-in-law Amanda Correll and fiancé Brian Parks and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Lewisville. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Ally’s Wish Foundation.
