May 1, 1955 - May 9, 2023 

Tyrus Schroeder, MD passed away May 9, 2023, surrounded by family at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, TX at the age of 68. Ty was born on May 1, 1955, to Marvin and Hilda (Wernecke) Schroeder in Dallas, TX where he was baptized in the Lutheran faith. At the age of seven, the family moved to Brenham, TX where he confirmed his faith at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.

He graduated from Brenham High School before attending Texas A&M University where he received a BS in Biology, a BBA in Accounting, and an MBA in Business Computing Science. He obtained his Certified Public Accounting license before attending the University of Texas at Austin School of Law where he graduated with a JD, and later attended the University of Texas Medical Branch where he graduated with an MD. He completed his medical residency and fellowship at UTMB in Galveston. Ty was board certified in pulmonary and sleep medicine and he owned his own solo practice in New Braunfels for 27 years. Ty was a member of the Texas Medical Association and Comal County Medical Society. He served on various committees for Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and was Chief of Staff from 2015 through 2016. Most recently, he was a Medical Director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Christus Santa Rosa Outpatient Rehabilitation.

On October 17, 1981, Ty and Sharon (Pfennig) were married by Rev. Robert Pfennig at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham. Together, they raised three children, Michael, Daniel, and Kirsten. Ty was a lifelong learner and loved picking up new hobbies and skills ranging from photography to home and auto repair. He was a loving husband and father. He loved travelling with his family and especially enjoyed visiting national parks. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for many years.

He is survived by wife Sharon Schroeder of New Braunfels, son Michael Schroeder of New Braunfels, son Daniel Schroeder of Houston, daughter Kirsten (Josh) Muehlbrad of Castle Rock, CO, brother Alan (Leslie) Schroeder of Pearland, brother-in-law Bob (Anne) Pfennig of San Antonio, brother-in-law Bill (Kathleen) Pfennig of Fair Oaks Ranch along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is predeceased in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Braunfels. Memorials may be given to SOS Food Bank, St. Paul Lutheran Church, or Lutheran World Relief.
