Jacob "Jake" Wnuk 

August 11, 1986 - August 6, 2023 

On August 6, 2023 Jacob Wnuk tragically passed away at the young age of 36 in Cypress, Texas.

Jacob “Jake” Wnuk was born on August 11, 1986 to his parents, Bruce and Susan Wnuk in Smithtown, New York. As a young boy, Jake was passionate about sports, art, and boating. He was a skilled artist with a creative eye and knack for sketches and woodworking. He enjoyed swimming, fishing and exploring with his family off the North Shore of Long Island, NY. Early on he learned to navigate the coastal waters off Long Island, fishing for bluefish in the tidal estuaries. Jake was an outstanding soccer player, full of grit and determination, and his love for the game and the water eventually earned him an appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy. He later transferred to Texas A & M Maritime University where he completed his studies in Maritime Transportation.

During his adventures in Galveston, Texas, Jake fell in love with the woman of his dreams, Megan Schmulbach. They were married in 2012 and started their family shortly thereafter. Their daughter, Quinn and their son, Bryson also embrace their father’s passion for sports, the water, and his dedication to explore life to the fullest.

Jake began his maritime career as Third Mate, “Chief Textiles Manager” AKA Laundry Grunt, along with other third mate responsibilities. He quickly rose through the ranks to Chief Mate on a 600 ft. exploratory drill rig where he led hundreds of seamen through the rigors of working offshore, as well as managing a billion-dollar drill ship. His career took him all over the world, first to the Gulf of Mexico and then off the coasts of Mexico, Africa, South America, Europe, Egypt, and Nigeria.

In 2021 Jake reoriented his career to renovation & construction with Cotton Holdings to be home with family. This enabled him to bring to bear his creativity and managerial skills for large-scale land-based projects; we were all so blessed to have him home full time.

Jake was perhaps best known for pouring his love and enthusiasm over those around him. He loved showering his friends and family with gifts. He organized events and activities in his community, and he had a special ability to bring people together. He is remembered by so many as a loving husband and father, a dutiful son and brother, and a devoted friend. Our favorite memories were on the boat and enjoying family time.

He is survived by his wife, Megan Wnuk and their two children, Quinn and Bryson, as well as his parents Bruce and Susan Wnuk and his sister, Emily (Rob) Anders. A Celebration of Life is being held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m at Cy-Hope Alamo, 12715 Telge Rd., Cypress, TX. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the overwhelming generosity shown by friends and loving community members. Your support is carrying us through this tragic loss, and we will forever be grateful.
