James William "Jim" Harris

February 23, 1959 - April 4, 2023

James (“Jim” or “Jimmy”) William Harris, 64 years of age, suddenly passed away on April 4, 2023.

After graduating Texas A&M University (Class of 1983), Jim became a member of the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association and had a long career as a marine engineer, traveling all over the world.

Retiring in 2013, he had time to continue his old hobbies and to explore some new ones, including gardening, cooking, beekeeping, masonry, stained glass, scuba diving, and backgammon. As a family man, Jim enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Virginia; his sons, Sean (Caitlyn) and Patrick (Morgan) Harris; his stepson, Joseph (Amy) Groover; three grandchildren, Aurora, Beauregard, and Zoey; his brother, Jeffery Harris; and his Aunt and Uncle, James and Kay Pearl. He also leaves behind many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Janice Wood Harris; his stepfather, Dr. Hugo F. Elmendorf; his “Nonnie,” Aleen Key Wood Kincannon; and a beloved cousin, Stephanie Ann Rivera.

Family and friends will be saying their final goodbyes to Jim Harris on April 13, 2023. Services begin at 1:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
