James Paul Glasson, DVM

April 11, 1946 - February 20, 2024

James Paul Glasson, D.V.M., age 77, of Coleman, Texas died peacefully Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. The family will host a visitation at 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chas Shira, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

Paul, along with his twin sister Mary Harriett, made their debut on April 11, 1946, at Overall Morris Hospital in Coleman, Texas to James Louis Glasson and Clarice Bell Glasson. Paul grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1964. After graduation, Paul attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1969 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science. Paul then set his sights for the Texas Panhandle where he worked in Canyon, Texas for a short stent and later settled in Lockney, Texas. He opened Lockney Veterinary Clinic where he specialized in large and small animal care for over forty years. Paul was no stranger to hard work. He ran his veterinary clinic along with working cattle sales every week in Floydada and Haskell. He absolutely loved his job and being outdoors in the open fields.

Paul met Delinda Phillips, a bright-eyed blond Lockney native, and they were married on July 18, 1970, in Lockney. With this union two sons were born, Phillip James and Jerod Paul. Paul was a big supporter of the Lockney F.F.A. and the Floyd County Livestock Shows. He was given many awards for his dedication and support by the local youth. Paul also served many years on the Lockney Independent School Board serving as secretary/treasurer and the Lockney Lions Club. Paul continued his veterinary practice until he retired in 2019.

Paul and DeLinda moved to Coleman, Texas in 2020 to be closer to family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coleman and loved attending the Coleman PRCA Rodeo. Paul enjoyed fly fishing while vacationing in Red River, New Mexico. He also enjoyed hunting, drinking cold beer, and chili rellenos from Tulia, Texas. Paul was a devout Aggie, wearing maroon clothing, driving maroon vehicles, and having designated “Aggie” parking at the veterinary clinic. The Aggie flag could always be seen waving on the flagpole at his residence. So, as we bid farewell to our beloved Paul, we say Godspeed, “Gig’em”, and we love you!

Preceding Paul in death are his parents, Louis and Clarice Glasson, and his father and mother-in-law, D.J. and Almeda Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, DeLinda Glasson of Coleman; two sons, Phillip Glasson and wife Rayanna of Forney and Jerod Glasson of Coleman; two grandchildren, Layton Glasson and Hope Glasson; two sisters, Mary Glasson of Dallas and Tracey Clark and husband Ronald of Roanoke, Virginia; two brothers, John Glasson and wife Mary Lynn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Tom Glasson of Dallas; sister-in-law, Jane Lacewell and husband Ron of College Station and brother in law, Keith Phillips and wife Marcia of Lockney. Paul is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
