John Vinson Wright, Jr., born on October 22, 1946, in Macon, GA, passed away on February 10, 2024, in Kissimmee, FL, at the age of 77. He is survived by his loving wife Deborah J. Educated at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines, for high school and earning undergrad and master's degrees in Meteorology at Texas A&M University, John's career spanned over thirty years with the National Weather Service. He held the position of Meteorologist-in-charge at forecast offices in Midland, TX, Goodland, KS, and Blacksburg, VA, receiving prestigious awards for his work, including the National Exceptional Specific Prediction Award and recognition from NOAA.

After retiring, John continued his advocacy work as the Coordinator for Disability Outreach & Advocacy at Virginia Tech. He founded the High School/High Tech program in Montgomery County, VA, to encourage students with disabilities to explore careers in science, engineering, and technology.

John's passion for bowling led him to serve as the captain of the Texas A&M intercollegiate bowling team for all four years.

Services will be private as per his wishes.

John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched through his dedication to service and advocacy. John's motivational speech can be viewed on Youtube under John V. Wright, Jr.
