Ronald James "Ron" Bauml 

May 11, 1960 - February 13, 2024 

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald "Ron" James Bauml at the age of 63 years. His love, kindness and humor will be missed immensely. Ron was born in San Antonio on May 11, 1960 and passed away on February 13, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Ron was the youngest of six children, born to Robert and Leatrice Bauml. He graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School and Texas A&M University. Ron obtained a Bachelor of Environmental Design '82 and a Master of Architecture '84 from Texas A&M. Rooting on the Aggie football team was a lifelong (and sometimes frustrating) passion.

After graduation, Ron began work at Marmon Mok Architects. A few years later, he began work at the Conservation Society of San Antonio and was the Properties Restoration Manager for 33 years until his retirement in 2020. Ron helped to preserve numerous historic buildings in San Antonio and was known as "The Man" to answer questions about historic preservation. He was honored in 2020 with the Community Partner award by the San Antonio Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for his significant contributions to the community. Driving around town with Ron was entertaining because of the wealth of knowledge he had about any historic building we passed.

Work was a big part of his life, but Ron found his greatest joy in being with his family and friends. Being with his wife and children, and later his son-in-law and granddaughters, were the best days of his life. His granddaughters brought him so much happiness! Many of his close friends were ones he had since elementary school. Ron was deeply loved by everyone that knew him because of his thoughtfulness and quick wit.

Ron loved spending time at his brother's ranch in Castroville, golfing, watching sports, doing home projects, and creating various types of art.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Leatrice (Hans) Bauml; his sister, Lou Ann DeMartino; his nephew, Aaron Pfeiffer; his brother-in-law, Ted Gibbs; and his father-in-law, Dennis Sweezea.

Ron is survived by his wife and best friend of 38 years, Lori; his daughter Sarah Hermes (husband Colton); his son Drew Bauml; his mother-in-law Georgia Sweezea; brothers Bob Bauml (Debbie) and Carl Bauml; sisters Cindy Richard and Mary Lee Gibbs; granddaughters Harper and Annie who knew Ron as "Pop"; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron's memory to the San Antonio Humane Society, Meals on Wheels or to the charity of your choice. Ron will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Tuesday, February 27, 2024 11:00 AM St. David's Episcopal Church, 1300 Wiltshire Ave, San Antonio, Texas. Reception at St. David's immediately following the service. Procession to Holy Cross Cemetery leaves at 1:30.
