Roy Travis King 

June 10, 1928 - November 17, 2023 

Roy Travis King, 97, died peacefully November 17, 2023, in McKinney, Texas.

Mr. King was born in Rockwood, Texas, June 10, 1926, the son of Arthur L. King and Lily Stewardson. He graduated from Santa Anna HS in 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving in the Pacific Theater as a signalman aboard the USS Block Island. After his service in WWII, he graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1950.

His work career began in McKinney with Texas Power & Light Co., in 1951, where he met and married Opal Ann Jay in that city. Travis and Opal Ann were happily married for 67 years prior to Mrs. King’s death in 2019. He spent his entire career with TP&L with managerial stints in Commerce, Nacogdoches, Paris and McKinney. After retirement he enjoyed traveling, woodturning and his family. Most of all he was a proud Aggie, served on Former Student boards and supported the University in many ways including the endowment of the Opal Ann (Jay) and R. Travis King ’50 Scholarship.

Travis is survived by a sister, Artie Jean Sitterle of Giddings, TX, sons Vince King of Georgetown, TX and Mark King and his wife Deborah of McKinney, daughters-in-law Elaine King, Becky McCollum and very special friends Ann LeBouf Pierpont and Hayley May, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The family will receive friends during a visitation prior to the service on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
