Shannon Owen Ezell

December 19, 1945 - December 23, 2023

A funeral service for Shannon Owen Ezell, 78, is scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Life Recovery Church, formerly Ezell Tractor Company with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. There will be a private burial to follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Shannon was born on December 19, 1945, to Rex Suggs and Evelyn (Bolton) Ezell and passed away on December 23, 2023. Being an only child, he was much loved and spoiled by his mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, all who lived close by. As a young boy he learned to work hard on the family farm in his grandfather's shadow. His father's job as a pipeliner gave Shannon the opportunity to travel throughout the states during the summer months. In the fall, he would return to Maydelle to live with his beloved grandparents and attend school.

Shannon graduated from Maydelle High School and then went on to attend Lon Morris College, and Texas A&M University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering.

In 1970, he and his mother began a partnership together, S.O. Ezell Ford Tractor Company in Jacksonville, Texas. They were in business for 50 wonderful years. Always loving a challenge, Shannon worked with his Ezell cousins on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and he enjoyed working with Boss and JJ Oilfield Services.

Shannon was a lifelong cattleman and was happiest at the farm where he spent many hours. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most recently loved camping with his sons and grandsons.

Shannon was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Evelyn Ezell, and grandparents, Lester and Minnie (Rainey) Bolton.

Left to cherish Shannon's memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Sue Ezell of Jacksonville; 2 sons, James Scott Ezell and wife Joan Clark Ezell of Houston, and Rex Shawn Ezell of Austin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Everett Clark Ezell and Dalton Owen Ezell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Philip Nicks, Glen Ezell, Donald Starling, and Steve Agee.

Rather than customary condolences, the family requests donations be made to the following:
