Douglas Ray "Doug" Currier 

January 28, 1952 - March 13, 2023 

Douglas Ray "Doug" Currier, 71, of Jacksonville, Texas, passed away on March 13, at 8:15p.m. at home while on the phone with his best friend.

Douglas, fondly known as Doug, was born to J.W. and Louise Currier on January 28, 1952. He grew up on the Texas coast and attended Texas A&M University where he earned a bachelor's degree in horticulture. He met his future wife, Mary Lauva, known as Lauva, in Kingsville, Texas, and they married on May 17, 1975. After graduating, Doug started Currier Irrigation and Landscaping where he served Seguin, Texas, and the surrounding areas on a plethora of beautification projects. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, and applying architectural principles to designing and installing irrigation and landscaping projects.

Doug loved being on the water. He grew up barefoot water-skiing with his parents and brother. He loved the natural landscape of Central Texas and settled down in Seguin, Texas, where he started his business, he led for over 30 years. He enjoyed running trotlines in a Jon boat, trolling with silver spoons, and catching the daily limit of white bass at Choke Canyon. In his spare time, he also enjoyed frying fish, shrimp and turkeys, drying beef jerky and sausage in the well house, and loved to fellowship with his family and church members.

Doug operated a farm with his wife Lauva where they raised and sold African Pygmy goats and Great Pyrenees. In retirement, Doug and Lauva operated a tree farm in East Texas after falling in love with the tall pines and private lake in their log cabin home. In Jacksonville, Doug continued to enjoy landscaping, shooting hogs, sitting on the porch watching the lake, building projects and maintaining the farm, being self-sufficient, telling stories, teaching Sunday school, and visiting the holy lands five times. Doug positively affected our lives, and the lives of others, and he will be truly missed.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, J.W. and Louise Currier.

Doug is survived by his wife Lauva; and his two sons, Clint and Clay. He is also survived by his brother, Wes and wife Janie; and six grandchildren: Ali, twins boys Logan and Mason, Claera, Caliyah, and Cyler.

Pallbearers are Larry Lummus, C.J. O’Neal, Larry Boone, Time Epperson, Dan Lewis, and John Graham.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2p.m., Friday, March 17, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Frankston with Pastor Scott Wiley officiating. Visitation will begin 1 hour before. Lunch will be provided at 12p.m. at the church and family and friends are welcome to join.
