Cheryl Fisher Deborah 

August 11, 1961 - January 28, 2024 

Cheryl Deborah, devoted wife, experienced her final change of address, passing peacefully from Sugar Land, Texas, to her heavenly home on January 28, 2024, surrounded by close family. 

Cheryl Fisher Deborah was born August 11, 1961, in Mount Vernon, Washington. She moved across the country as a young girl living in Washington, Michigan, New York, and Canada, with her family eventually settling in Texas. She would remark that she hated leaving friends, but she possessed a special ability to develop new and deep friendships quickly. She loved going to new places and meeting interesting people. The saying goes, you could drop Cheryl in the middle of nowhere and she would instantly make 5 (or more) friends and try several new foods.

Cheryl was a proud descendant of Swedish ancestry, creating a melting pot of cultures by marrying into a family of Germans; therefore, Swedish pancakes and German sausage anyone? Cheryl's talents were vast and always evolving, first and always the consummate entertainer and hostess, using her gift of food to win over everyone's heart through their stomach. One of the smartest and most technical people you would meet, she had that unique creative side to match; whether designing and composing software, playing cards, crafting or making her home a special and inviting space for others.

A true love to travel, she had the opportunity to see much of the world. Michael and Cheryl's excursions as a couple spanned across England, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland to name a few.

A true love for animals, made challenging by her significant allergies. That never stopped her, whether instantly calming a giraffe to prevent a head butt, feeding fish and sea turtles squeeze cheese, or while in Israel taming a cantankerous camel. She loved God’s creatures and was not afraid to get up close and personal.

Having a heart for people, she was a true evangelist for Jesus. No matter what she was going through she was first and foremost concerned about others, especially if you were in need or wanted to share something special in your life, her life was second to yours. She shared her gifts freely and made everyone feel important and well loved, praying for all her friends and extended family.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 28 years, Michael Deborah of Sugar Land, Texas, her father and mother Dr. Dennis and Barbara Fisher of College Station, Texas, mother in law Claudia Deborah of Beaumont, Texas, brother Dr. Brian Fisher and his wife Tristie Fisher, nephew and niece Ben and Joy Fisher of College Station, Texas, who were great loves in her life.

Cheryl graduated high school in Ithaca, New York in 1979, attended Michigan State University, completing her BBA in Management in 1982 and MS in Business Computing Science with a minor in Finance in 1986, both from Texas A&M University.

Cheryl was fashion focused from an early age and started her career in the executive development program at Dillard’s in San Antonio, Texas, as an assistant buyer and area sales manager till 1985.

Cheryl worked at Texas A&M University as a lecturer and manager of the faculty computer assistance office from 1985 to 1987. Students loved her classes, honoring her with several teaching awards.

She held leadership positions while working for Exxon, NYNEX DPI, NYNEX CableComms in the UK, BMC Software and Dynegy.

She was an active member of the Relational Database Exchange, held positions of vice president and president of Houston Data Administration and Management Association, using her gift for education to speak at various local and international conferences. She willingly served as a computer consultant to the AD Players.

Cheryl was an active member in River Pointe Church since 1999, a true evangelist. In her final years, she was engaged with the Cancer Care Ministry, having a heart for those directly in the battle and those families supporting their loved ones through all phases of the cancer journey.
