Woodrow L. "Woody" Bacica, Jr. 

July 13, 1943 - January 29, 2024 

Woodrow L. Bacica, Jr., most often referred to as Woody, was the eldest son of Woodrow L. Bacica, Sr. and Adeline Walcik Bacica born on July 13, 1943. Surviving Woody is the family of brother Brian and wife Kathy Bacica and their children Tracy Scates, Amy and husband Brett Pohler, and Brian Jr. and wife Judith Bacica. Grandnieces and grandnephews include Michael and Ryan Bacica and Jess and Reese Pohler.

Woody was born in San Diego, CA where his dad worked as an aircraft mechanic during WWII. The family moved to West Columbia, TX in 1945 and then to Guy, TX in 1949. Woody excelled in academics where he was valedictorian of the 1961 Needville class. He excelled in all sports but was most successful in basketball where he was on the state finals basketball team in 1961 under the coaching of Leroy Miksch.

Woody entered Texas A&M University in 1961 and was an ROTC and civilian student. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1966. His career in electrical engineering was lifelong where he worked with numerous companies such as Jacobs, GDS, Phillips, Bovay Engineers, HL&P to name a few. His projects took him to Yugoslavia, Saudi Arabia, St. Croix Virgin Islands, Ontario, Quebec, etc. Woody was also active in the Texas Society of Professional Engineers holding officer positions in various chapters throughout his career.

In addition to his career, he enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He always had a knack for finding something in common with them. Woody and Brian Jr. loved to discuss business and career opportunities. Woody and Tracy shared their love for Aggie Football and attended several games together including the 1987 Cotton Bowl Victory. Woody enjoyed coaching Amy’s little league teams each year. He was active in the Needville Little League and even helped coordinate the Needville Little League program sponsorship of the girls’ softball program for Needville High School. And Woody never passed up an opportunity to talk about his great nephews and niece. He always knew what Michael, Ryan, Reese and Jess were involved in and often showed videos and pictures of them to family members.

Woody also served as president of the Needville Public Cemetery from 1980 to 1985. He and his brother Brian started A&T Machine Services which operated from 1986 to 2014.

Woody was a kind-hearted man that loved helping people. Many that worked with Woody over the years will remember his gentle and loving disposition.

A memorial service honoring Woodrow’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral home in Rosenberg, TX. The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
