William Freeman Pry, II 

April 6, 1940 - November 3, 2023 

William Freeman Pry, II of Dallas died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023 — three years to the day after his youngest brother passed away and just hours after the first World Series championship parade in Texas Rangers history.

Bill was born April 6, 1940, in Houston and graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston. He earned a B.A. in math and an M.S. in computer science from Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of C-Field Artillery and later, F-2 in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets.

After graduating from A&M, Bill served for six years as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

He worked for Texas Instruments in Dallas for more than 20 years and achieved the rank of Senior Member of Technical Staff. After retiring from TI, he worked as a computer consultant for several years.

Bill enjoyed chess, stamp and coin collecting, and sharing stories — some of them true — about “Good Bull” from his days in College Station. A constant presence on the sideline while his son and grandson played soccer on the weekends, Bill prominently wore his Class of ’62 cap and his Aggie ring in hopes of attracting other Ags who would be willing to say Howdy.

He shared a love of bad jokes, dad jokes and puns with others in his family, and he especially loved reading Calvin and Hobbes or discussing John Wick with his grandson for hours at a time. He cherished his role as Conor’s Grandad and always encouraged him in his interests.

In the 1980s and 1990s, he was a tireless volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, Circle Ten Council. He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 835 and a Cubmaster for Packs 34 and 835. He served on staff for several Scout and Scout leader training courses and at Wood Badge. He was awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver.

Bill previously served in various volunteer positions at Schreiber Memorial Church in Dallas as well.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Barnett Pry, his brother Pat Pry, and his sister-in-law Laura Pry. He is survived by his son Will, daughter-in-law Holly Becka, and grandson Conor Pry; his brother Mike Pry and nephew Derek Mueller; his sister-in-law Cheryl Pry and nephews Jake Pry and Chris Pry; his sister-in-law Sheila Barnett Brown and her husband Marty Brown, and nephew Blair Brown; and many cousins.

Bill was blessed by the support and companionship of his caregiver, Nola Eke. His family will forever be grateful for her.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Park Cities Baptist Church's Ellis Chapel. A short reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bill’s honor to the charity of your choice.
