Johnny Earl Whiting 

June 26, 1949 - January 27, 2024 

Johnny E. Whiting was born June 26, 1949 in Washington, Texas to Thomas G. and Addie L. Whiting. He attended Post Oak Ridge and Mt. Zion elementary schools where his Aunt Nettie Hogan was teacher and principal.

Johnny attended and graduated from Pickard High School in Brenham, Texas with honors. He continued his education at Blinn Jr. College and graduated in May 1970 from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. “Gig'em Aggies"

Johnny joined the U.S. Marines immediately after graduating college. His tour of duty took him overseas to Okinawa, Japan. He received an honorable discharge after two years of service and began his lifelong professional career with U.S. Customs.

As a Customs Border Protection Officer he was stationed in Brownsville, Beaumont, and San Antonio, Texas. Johnny was married to Sylvia and they had one son, Scott G. Whiting. Johnny and Sylvia divorced. After forty-one years of working as a Customs Border Patrol officer Johnny retired. While working he received the Albert Gallatin award and numerous awards due to work related successes. His retirement was short lived as he took a position as a professional driver (a title he gave himself) for Cavender Auto Group for several years.

Johnny met his true love, Belinda McDaniel, in 2010. They were devoted partners and enjoyed traveling, visiting National Parks and many states. Johnny leaves to cherish his memory Belinda; brothers, Warren G. (Ann), Charles E. and Stanley W. Whiting; Sisters, Nelda (Jerry) Moody, Bessie (Eddie) Finley, Lorraine Washington, and Rubye (Thomas) Randle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Johnny is preceded in death by his son, Scott, parents, Thomas G. and Addie L. Whiting, sister, Thomye Steen and brothers, Wilfred and Reginald Whiting.

The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 5, 2024 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. FUNERAL MASS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2024 11:00 AM ST. MARK THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1602 THOUSAND OAKS DR. Msgr Kevin Ryan will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
