Michael Conness "Mike" Steindorf, Jr.

October 14, 1934 - January 24, 2024

Michael “Mike” Conness Steindorf, Jr., of Forney, Texas, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was 89 years old. His wife, Linda, and five adult children were with him to the very end of his life. He was born on October 14, 1934 in Mineral Wells, Texas, the son of Michael C. Steindorf, Sr. of Dallas and Mary Ruth Whatley Steindorf of Mineral Wells. He was raised in Oak Cliff, graduating from Sunset High School in 1953.

At Sunset, Mike was active in all sports, especially football and baseball. He was proud to be a part of the Bison football team, which enjoyed several successful seasons during his time there. Mike cherished his friendships with former teammates and maintained those relationships throughout his life. He loved to reunite with these friends over the years and was able to keep up with them through social media.

After high school he married the late Marianne Sexton Steindorf, who he met at Sunset, and enrolled at Texas A&M University where he studied petroleum engineering. The new couple welcomed their first child in 1956 and added four more in the years following. He graduated from A&M in 1957.

Mike’s professional career in the oil business began in Midland, Texas and over the course of the next 40 years he worked in various aspects of the industry and all over Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and California. Eventually his career even took him to Cairo, Egypt where he and Linda lived for two years.

Mike was an avid golfer and had a low handicap. He won amateur tournaments sponsored by various oil industry companies throughout the 70s and 80s. He was an enthusiastic hiker and camper and took his large family on treks to the mountains of California and Colorado.

Mike will be remembered for his ever-present sense of humor. He was never afraid to be silly or make fun of himself. He was always quick to tell a joke or share a funny story. His family will remember his many unique and clever sayings.

Mike was kind to everyone he met. He was supremely modest and truly loved and believed in people. He also adored animals. He and Linda cared for, and even spoiled, many dogs and cats over the years. Mike will be remembered for his kindness and compassion.

Mike and Linda were married in 1983 and retired to Forney in 1990. Mike was active in his Church (Fellowship Forney) and he eventually enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary where he was a student for a time. He had many friends and usually found a way to share his faith. He loved and delighted in his large family, including his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife, Linda Caffrey Steindorf of Forney and five children including Michael C. Steindorf, III (Victoria), Suzanne Steindorf, Steve Steindorf (Donna), Anita Turner and Sheila Steindorf all of Dallas. He is also survived by four grandchildren including Michael C. Steindorf, IV (Audra) of Dallas, Caroline Kinney (Will) of Columbia, South Carolina, Eleanor Steindorf of Dallas and Amanda Turner of Ennis. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren including Elizabeth, Katherine and Emily Steindorf of Dallas, Charles, John and Isaac Kinney of Columbia, South Carolina and Aleah Woodruff of Mineral Wells.

Services will be held in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Fellowship Forney Church senior pastor and family friend, Rick Lemons, will preside.

A donation in Mike’s memory to Operation Kindness of Carrollton is requested in lieu of flowers.
