Carl Marshall McGee 

November 3, 1934 - January 19, 2024 

Rev. Dr. Carl Marshall "Corky" McGee, 89, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024. He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas to Doyle Marshall and Clembert Sutherland McGee.

As a teen, Corky found his faith in the Young Life Club. He graduated from North Dallas High School where he excelled as an All-State and All-American football player in 1952. He remained a lifelong fan of football at all levels. Corky married the love of his life, Barbara Lamar, in 1956.

After graduating from Texas A&M University with a BBA in 1957, he started a business with Humble Oil in Dallas. In 1961, Corky was called to ministry and moved his young family to Emory University in Georgia and served several small churches while attaining his Bachelor of Divinity in 1964 from Candler School of Theology. Corky, Barbara, and their 3 daughters moved back to Texas where he was appointed to the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. Through his 40 years of ministry, he served churches including Talco UMC, Henrietta UMC (5 years), Inglewood UMC in Grand Prairie (18 years), Lovers Lane UMC in Dallas, Trinity UMC in Denton, and Axe Memorial UMC in Garland (8 years) before he retired in 2001. He spent many years on the Board of Ordained Ministry for the North Texas Conference. Corky loved to continue to grow and learn leading him to earn his Doctor of Ministry from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in 1979.

Following his beliefs, Corky actively gave his prayers, presence, gifts, and his service to the churches and communities he pastored, to many organizations including the American Cancer Society, to his 3 universities, and to many smaller churches. He was a voracious reader, traveled extensively, enjoyed gardening, and loved spending much of his time in Colorado.

Corky was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Clembert McGee; and his sister, Sue Dempsey.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Richardson; 3 daughters: Lori Oliphint (Clayton) of Dallas, Lisa Loftis (David) of Aledo, Lynn McCarley (LeRoy) of Bellaire; 9 grandchildren: Erin Oliphint, Katy Vandruff, Grant Oliphint, Will Loftis, Mitch Loftis, Calvin Loftis, James Loftis, Magregor McCarley, and Grayson McCarley; and 5 great-grandsons: Breck, Porter, Vernon, Everett, and Quinn Loftis. A Memorial Celebration of Corky's life will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church Richardson. Those desiring may give to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, or the United Methodist Church of their choice.
