Roy Ernest Strain 

October 25, 1933 - December 26, 2023 

Roy Ernest Strain, 90, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Dec. 26, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Dr. Randy Richards officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Ernest was born on Oct. 25, 1933 in Brownwood, Texas, to James Henderson and Victoria Mayes Strain. He went to school at Haskell High School where he exceeded in basketball and football. He graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of ‘55, and remained a lifelong Aggie football fan. He was an Eagle Scout and served in the United States Air Force. He joined the family business, J.H. Strain and Sons and worked in highway construction his entire career.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Vic Strain, his older brother, James Strain '52, his younger sister, Doris Strain Lloyd, and his son, Craig K. Strain '81.

Ernest is survived by his older daughter, Cheryl Strain Schroeder '80, and her husband Bobby '80, their three daughters Leigh, Kayla, Nikki, and his younger daughter, Stacia Strain Richards, her husband Randy, their two sons Joshua and Jacob, and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the SLCC Foundation for the Craig Strain Memorial Scholarship at South Louisiana Community College (contact 337-521-9026).
