Larry Bruce Wells

June 20, 1948 - June 12, 2023

Larry Bruce Wells, 74, of Linden, TX, was ushered into his heavenly home on Monday, June 12, 2023 at MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston.

Larry was born in Houston to Shirley and Edwin Wells. He graduated Spring High School in 1966 and was later named an Outstanding Alumni of his alma mater.

He married his high school sweetheart, Linda, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage.

Larry went on to graduate with military and academic honors with a degree in Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1970. He was a proud member of the Company F-1 Corps of Cadets and the Ross Volunteer Distinguished Drill Team.

From here he went on to serve his country as a Captain in the United States Army, serving at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland performing weapons testing during the Vietnam War.

Larry had two beloved sons, Kyle and Kerry, who were his greatest joy. He moved his young family from Tomball to Linden, TX after taking a job at Lone Star Steel as Production Engineer and Superintendent of Inspection.

Upon leaving LSS, he started Reliant Nondestructive Testing Systems and Services in 1988. He would go on to open a location in Nigeria, West Africa operating there 10 years. He traveled the globe performing on-site inspections of oil and gas pipe for major companies. He designed large inspection systems for steel mills and aerospace companies and quoted jobs on everything from submarines to NASA's rockets. He also was a consultant to many large corporations.

Larry was a Deacon at First Baptist Church Linden and enjoyed years teaching and fellowshipping with his endeared Sunday School class and also served as the Church Treasurer. He was a Board Member of Bowie – Cass Electric Cooperative, and Linden Economic Development Corporation. Larry served on the Northeast Texas School Boards Association and as President of the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District for many years.

In his retirement years he loved collecting and working on old classic cars and attending shows all over the country.

Larry could most often be seen in the stands at any of his five grandchildren's many academic and sporting events. He enjoyed vacations, hunting trips, and endless excursions to cheer on his Fightin Texas Aggies with special friends and family.

He leaves a distinguished legacy of honor and excellence, rooted in his love for Jesus Christ, whom he served and followed until he fulfilled his life's destiny. He will be truly missed but his Christian foundation, quiet strength, and kind heart will continue to be revered and celebrated for generations to come.

Larry is survived by his wife Linda; son Kyle and wife Rebecca Wells of Linden; son Kerry and wife Erin Wells of Linden; along with his five treasured grandchildren Kayden Ray, Kendall Lyn, Asher Stone, Alayna Linae, and Breckin Sloan. Also, sister Nancy and Jim Brown of Tomball, brother Layne and wife Sharon Wells of Normangee along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Eddy and Shirley, who were waiting for him upon his home going.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Linden, TX with his friend and pastor Mitch Minson officiating. Visitation will be Friday 6-8pm at Reeder Davis Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Concord Cemetery.
