Arthur J. Bahme
January 18, 1940 - December 2, 2023

Arthur Jarrell Bahme, age 83, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Arthur was born on January 18, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to parents Nathan and Diane Bahme. As the child of a career Army officer, Arthur lived all over the United States as well as in Japan and France. This inspired a life-long love of travel that he shared with his wife, Myra.

He attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1961 with a B.S. and in 1968 with his D.V.M. Arthur served his country in the Medical Service Corp of the U.S. Army prior to attending Veterinary school. Arthur was proud to be one of only two veterinarians serving the citizens of San Antonio’s east side for several decades. He was always happy to serve as vet-in-residence at cat shows, dress up as Santa and be pulled by a dog sled at the Samoyed owners club Christmas parties, and participate in vaccination events for pets belonging to homeless individuals. In his 40s, he achieved his dream of becoming a pilot and loved to spend time among the clouds.

Later in life, he was honored to volunteer with the San Antonio Police Department and Meals on Wheels. Among his hobbies were playing bridge, target shooting with friends, and going to movies.

Arthur is survived by his beloved wife, Myra Bahme; daughters, Jennifer Elder, Deborah Bahme (Tim Nokken), and Allison Bahme; as well as his grandchildren, Jessica Marrin (Kenneth), Nathaniel Nokken, and Kira Elder.

A gathering in loving memory of his life will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 1:00 at Temple Beth El, 211 Belknap Drive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morris Animal Foundation, the Hillel at Texas A&M University, or to a charity of choice.
