Charles Walker "Chuck" Pickering, Jr. 

September 30, 1958 - November 27, 2023 

Charles Walker “Chuck” Pickering Jr., 65, of Richmond, TX passed away on November 27, 2023 near Gadsden, AL doing what he loved, flying his Piper Airplane.

Chuck was born in Orange, TX on September 30, 1958 to Charles Walker Sr. & Ollie V. Pickering. He grew up in Orange, TX, graduating in 1976 from Lutcher Stark HS where he excelled in baseball and band.

Chuck graduated from Texas A&M University in 1980 with a BS in Engineering Technology. He began his career in the West Texas Oil Industry as a General Field Engineer with Dresser Atlas and continued working for Western Atlas with assignments in Lagos, Nigeria, Tyler, Dallas, and finally Houston, TX. Chuck joined QC Data in 1997, later IHS and finally S&P Global serving as a Vice President from 2013 till his retirement in 2022.

Chuck married the love of his life, Marcia McIntire in 1994. In 1996 they helped plant Riverpoint Church in Sugar Land, TX where Chuck served as a volunteer leader for many years. He also coached Little League Baseball. Chuck enjoyed traveling with his family, visiting all 30 Major League Baseball Teams, and loved all things A&M, especially Aggie Football. Chuck’s was a life well lived; he was loved, respected and enjoyed by all who knew him.

Chuck is survived by his wife Marcia, sons Walker Pickering (Stacy) of Lincoln, NE, Ryan Pickering (Lauren) of Nederland, TX, Adam McIntire (Kathleen) of Brenham, TX and Carter Pickering of Pittsburgh, PA.; sister Pam King (Don) of Orange, TX, brother Greg Pickering (Kathy) of Lake Jackson, TX.; grandchildren Ella, Jack, Cale, Luka, Scarlett, Juliet, a 7th grandchild due to arrive this month; and several nieces and nephews who adored him.

A Celebration of Chuck’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 8 at Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugar Land, TX. A private burial for family will follow in Richmond, TX. Pallbearers will be his four sons and dear friends Brad Adkins & Zane Reynolds.

Chuck’s family would like to express gratitude to the citizens, first responders, and Sheriff’s Department of Etowah County, AL, and Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford for their many acts of compassion. If anyone wishes to give a memorial, please make donations to Wounded Warriors or Camp Hope.
