Connie Marie Baker Walker 

March 5, 1958 - September 25, 2023 

Funeral services for Connie Marie Baker Walker, 65, of Lufkin will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Todd Core, Kerwin Smith and Ben Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.

Connie Marie Baker Walker was born March 5, 1958 in Frankfurt, Germany to Tony Baker and Marianna Evans Baker. She grew up in a military family, but primarily grew up in San Antonio, Texas. Connie graduated from Robert G. Cole High School in San Antonio, Class of 1976, and attended Texas A&M University with a major in Education, graduating with the Class of 1980.

Connie worked as a math teacher for 30 years, most recently with Huntington Middle School, teaching the 8th grade. Connie retired from teaching in 2011. She was a passionate and caring educator, who had a positive influence on hundreds of young lives.

Connie was an active member of the Harmony Hill Baptist Church and was a volunteer with the Mosaic Center, helping underserved women. Connie loved sports, especially her beloved Texas Aggies and Houston Astros.

Connie passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She cared deeply for everyone she met and was loved by many. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Connie is preceded in death by her father, MSgt. Tony Baker.

Connie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael Joe Walker; her son, Darryl Walker and daughter-in-law Lindsay Walker; her daughter, Rachel Walker Strong and son-in-law Hunter Strong. She is also survived by her mother, Marianna Baker; her sister, Lori Baker McDonald and brother-in-law Brett McDonald; and her brother, Robert Baker. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jerry Don Walker and his spouse Sally Karen Walker; her sister-in-law, Tami Walker and her spouse Sam Gowdy; as well as four nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Darryl Walker, Robert Baker, Matthew McDonald, Brett McDonald, Sam Gowdy, Jerry Walker, Marco Bautista, and Hunter Strong.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Frank, R.C. Bunton, Shane Stover, Matt Strong, Pat Oates, Dave Oates, Tucker Bynum, and Kirk Hooper.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Mosaic Center, Inc., P.O. Box 154225, Lufkin, Texas 75915; J.D’s Center of Hope, Inc., 1204 Cain Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904; or the Harmony Hill Baptist Church Children’s Fund, 2708 S. Chestnut Street, Lufkin Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
