Roy Eugene "Gene" Davis

September 14, 1937 - August 22, 2023

On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Roy Eugene "Gene" Davis passed away at the age of 85. He was born on September 14, 1937 to Roy and Lee Davis in Denison, Texas.

After graduation from Texas A&M, Gene joined the Air Force and studied meteorology at UCLA. He was stationed at Perrin Air Force Base in his home town of Denison and served as an Air Force meteorologist. Gene married Janet Staring in May 1961 and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary before his death. After his discharge from the service, Gene began a successful 32 year long career in the oil and natural gas business.

After semi-retiring in 1994, Gene and Janet moved to the Austin area to enjoy the hill country and their daughter Charla's two children, the first of six. Their sons, Rusty and Michael, married in the 1990s and brought the total number of grandchildren to ten. By 2022, they happily entertained seven great-grandchildren in their Georgetown living room...Jesse, Ava, Gabriel and Lucas Parks and Harper, Lily & Emmett Hansen.

Gene felt called to the ministry and in 2000 he was ordained a deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Austin. He first served at St. Martin de Porres in Dripping Springs. In 2004, he began serving at Holy Trinity Church in Corn Hill. During this time he also served as a chaplain for the Austin Police Department and the prison system. He retired in 2012 but was called back at the bishop's request upon the sudden death of the Holy Trinity pastor. He remained another year as Parish Administrator.

Gene was well known for his love of the Texas Aggies, his sense of humor, his kindness to others and his love of his family.

He is survived by Janet, his wife of 62 years, his sons and their wives, Rusty and Sherry Johnson, Michael and Holly Davis, and their daughter Charla Parks, ten grandchildren, Ashley and Lauren Johnson, Eliza and Evan Davis, Mary Parks Hansen, and Hannah, Jacob, Emilie, Catherine and John Parks and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be celebrated by Bishop Joe S. Vasquez at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Corn Hill in Jarrell on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. It will be preceded by a visitation at 9 a.m. and a rosary at 9:30. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, lunch and reception at St. Helen Catholic Church parish hall.
