Louis Edward "Eddie" Youngblood
June 28, 1927 - August 2, 2023

Louis Edward “Eddie” Youngblood, 96, passed peacefully on August 2, 2023, in his home of 61 years surrounded by his loved ones.

Eddie was born on June 28, 1927, in Pearsall, Texas to Joseph E. Youngblood and Helon DeVilbiss Youngblood. He graduated from Pearsall High School, then continued his education with Texas A&M University until enlisting into the US Army in 1945. Upon his return from active duty in Japan, he finished his college career in 1949, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. Eddie remained in the US Army reserves unit, actively serving in the Berlin Crisis, then retired in 1975, with the rank of Major.

Eddie started his carrier at the Texas Highway Department in 1949 where he worked as a Civil Engineer for 40 years before retiring in 1989. Eddie continued working after retirement, assisting his son Joel in his CPA practice during tax season for the next 33 years. He also served on the board of The San Antonio Rescue Mission.

Eddie met the love of his life Earle Dean (Eadie) Martin in October of 1951 and they wed in March of 1952.

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Eadie, his children, Sandra Youngblood (Skip Evans), Joel Youngblood (Karen), and Wanda Youngblood Stanley (Michael). His seven grandchildren, Jason Evans (Linda), Brent Youngblood (Amy), Joley Evans, Alexandra Stanley, Lauren Oliver (Bruce), Shea Stanley, and Jason Barrera (Angelica) and his eleven great grandchildren, Kennedy Hagan, Isabella Evans, Kai Connor, Ellie Youngblood, Josephine Stanley, Jack Barrera, Wyatt Oliver, Molly Stanley, Brynlee Youngblood, Eadie Read and Thomas Oliver.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elbert, niece Rethea, nephews David and Elbert Ernest. His great grandfather was John Wesley DeVilbiss, a circuit riding preacher who in 1847, delivered the first protestant sermon in San Antonio; on that spot he founded the Little Church of La Villita which still stands today.

Eddie was a member of Coker United Methodist Church for 56 years where he often attended and led Sunday School. He received the Bishop’s Exemplary Award and was a proud member of the Methodist Men’s group.

Eddie never met a stranger. If you spent more than five minutes with him, you were blessed by his smile, laughter, and stories about his life. He loved to spend time with family and friends and will forever be searching for the perfect chicken fried steak.

He loved Texas A&M football, tennis, hunting, and his Y Valley ranch. He participated in the Senior Olympics, achieving 3rd place in the nationals for pole vault when he was 68 years old. Over the years Eddie also received numerous gold medals in state-wide competitions.

He and Eadie spent their retirement years traveling with friends in their RV’s. The last 20 years they spent the summers in Mayhill, NM.
