Roll Call Tribute

Angela Durr '98 May 9, 2023 2:16 PM updated: March 12, 2024 11:17 AM

Angela K. (Nelson) Durr

June 18, 1976 - April 6, 2023

Angela Kay Durr, 46, of Bergheim, TX peacefully left the arms of her husband to enter the embrace of her Heavenly Father on April 6, 2023, after fighting multiple health issues including two types of cancer and paralysis for twelve months. Angela loved Jesus dearly, knew very well how much He loved her, and desired everyone around her to experience the same love she felt. Her selflessness and kind spirit didn't go unnoticed. She was well-known as someone who made every single person she met feel welcomed, important, and cared for. Her contagious laugh made everyone around her happy, and she always lit up every room she was in. Her children described her as an amazing woman who “spoke fluent sarcasm,” could always make you smile, and was always willing to help no matter how simple of a problem you were facing or how tough the situation was. “If she didn’t know how to help, she would always offer to try to learn how.” As a self-employed CPA, she became very close friends with many of her clients, which is definitely not what people expect! In Angela’s last year on Earth, with no concern about her own situation and whether she was in a hospital bed, wheelchair, or facing harsh cancer treatments, she always wore a beautiful smile. The hospital’s own Counselor told her through tears, “Thank you. The staff and I have all needed a patient like you here, and you will never know how much you have enriched our lives.”

Angela left us a few days before Easter, which is very fitting. While those who have loved her for many years grieve and fight through tears, we know that she is happier than ever right now at home with her Savior. Because of Jesus, we look forward to the day that we will see her again.

Angela received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A&M University in 1998, a master’s degree in taxation from Baylor University and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). When Angela was pregnant for the first time, she became a stay-at-home mom after several years of working in accounting firms because her family was a much higher priority to her than a career. After a friend later asked her for help with taxes, Angela began working from home as a CPA for the remainder of her life, eventually opening her own Licensed CPA Firm. Angela enjoyed serving her community and volunteered in many areas, such as her churches and children’s schools, as well as being a Board Member and Treasurer for the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department, Bergheim ASSIST helping First Responders across Kendall County, and several other community organizations.

Preceding Angela in death are her grandparents Leo and Bernice Nelson of Edgar, Nebraska; Walter and Viola Esslinger of Arapahoe, Nebraska; and an unnamed baby lost to miscarriage that she has been looking forward to being able to hold for many years.

Left to mourn until we meet again are her husband of 24 years Brian Durr (47 years old), son Caleb (17) and daughter Keeleigh (14) of Bergheim, TX; her parents Richard and Donna Nelson of Grapevine, TX; her brother and sister-in-law David and Alicia Nelson of Houston, TX; and her in-laws Bonnie and Dale Durr of Boerne, TX who loved her as their own daughter.

Funeral services celebrating the homecoming of Angela will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 631 S School St, Boerne, TX, officiated by Rev. Jared Carter of The Bridge Fellowship. A graveside service and interment will be on Saturday, April 15, at 1:00 PM at Beulah Church and Cemetery, 2279 Highway 487, Marthaville, LA, with Rev. Donny Durr officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department and Squadron One, Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets class of 1998.
